New JURASSIC PARK Reboot in the Works

New JURASSIC PARK Reboot in the Works

By Movieguide® Contributor

Universal has started work on a new JURASSIC PARK reboot, working with screenwriter David Keopp, who adapted the original movies, to bring the project to life.

This new project will distance itself from the JURASSIC WORLD trilogy which released its final movie in 2022. The main actors from that storyline – Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard – are not slated to return for this fresh start.

Though the JURASSIC WORLD trilogy was widely popular, with the last movie grossing over $1 billion at the box office, the movies’ plotlines bordered on absurdity, losing much of the charm that made the original series so pervasive in pop culture. These movies, however, were praised by Movieguide® for their uplifting themes.

Universal, however, is returning the franchise to its roots, in part, by bringing screenwriter Keopp onto the project for the fresh adaptation. Koepp worked on the screenplay adaptation for the original movies, bringing the original JURASSIC PARK trilogy, based on Michael Creighton’s novels, to life.

Though this movie will surely feature impressive CGI, it will hopefully return to a less violent, more storyline-focused direction rather than the action-packed violence that marred the Chris Pratt-led trilogy.

The project’s initial stages mirror the original trilogy as Steven Spielberg, who directed the first two movies, has also joined the movie, serving as an executive producer. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley will also serve as producers on the movie.

Those working on the project have also revealed that the new movie will feature a new set of characters rather than bringing on Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern or Sam Neill to reprise their roles.

Though this movie is only in its beginning stages, it is encouraging to see a tentpole franchise release in the works as the box office outlook for the upcoming year appears dim. The new JURASSIC PARK movie has no expected release date but will likely bring a large audience to theaters and serve as one of the most popular movies of the year when it does come to theaters.

Movieguide® previously reported on the JURASSIC PARK franchise:

The latest installment in the JURASSIC WORLD franchise, JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION, topped the weekend box office with $143.3 million.

The movie also reached nearly $400 million at the global box office.

While the JURASSIC WORLD franchise is a JURASSIC PARK reboot, DOMINION included reprised roles from Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum.

DOMINION defeated previous box office leader, TOP GUN: MAVERICK. Both movies contained positive, uplifting, and moral elements, which is proven to succeed at the box office time and time again.
