Actor Asa Butterfield sat down with Movieguide®’s Kaelii Williams to talk everything STITCH HEAD, the new animated Halloween film debuting on Oct. 29.

“Well, I’m a huge animated movie fan. So, I’ve always wanted to be a part of an animated film, and when I read this script, I saw something really kind of wholesome and relatable about this kid, this boy who’s looking for something,” Butterfield explained of what drew him to the movie. “He doesn’t really know what it is, but he thinks something’s missing in his life, and that feels like a quite relatable feeling. Just a chance to like really explore that skill of a voice actor and the challenges that come with that in the new space in a new format was a fun challenge.”

He stars as the titular character in the “whimsical and heartwarming story of a small, forgotten creature brought to life by a quirky Mad Professor in a crumbling castle above the mysterious town of Grubber Nubbin.”

“When the townspeople discover the professor’s strange creations, Stitch Head must step out of the shadows to protect his friends and prove that even the smallest monster can be a hero,” a synopsis of the film reads. “A spooky, funny, and heartfelt animated adventure, Stitch Head reimagines the Frankenstein legend with gothic charm, humor, and emotion — perfect for families this Halloween season. Based on the bestselling books by Guy Bass, it’s a celebration of courage, friendship, and finding your place in the world.”

Briarcliff Entertainment acquired the SITCH HEAD movie for distribution rights in the United States. Aside from Butterfield, the cast includes Joel Fry, Alison Steadman, Rob Brydon, Fern Brady, Tia Bannon and Jamali Maddix.

“STITCH HEAD is FRANKENSTEIN meets MONSTERS INC. – an inspired blend of spooky, funny and heartwarming storytelling with visually stunning animation by Assemblage Entertainment that will captivate audiences of all ages,” Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Briarcliff Entertainment, said in a press release in July. “We’re thrilled to bring families together for a one-of-a-kind experience.”

“STITCH HEAD is a delightful and funny family film and a terrific credit to the work of Steve, Sonja, Mark, and the whole team. Bringing on board a brilliant U.S. distributor such as Tom is one of the final pieces of the puzzle, and we are confident that we are on track to deliver a global hit,” Guy Collins, chairman of GFM Animation, added.
