Matthew West: Never Stop Praying
By Movieguide® Contributor
What do you do when your faith is being tested? Or when you feel like you’ve prayed for something for so long and God still hasn’t answered?
Christian artist Matthew West joined Kirk Cameron on Takeaways, to discuss why he created the song, “Don’t Stop Praying.”
“When you’ve cried and you’ve cried, all your tears run dry, there answer won’t come, and you don’t know why and you wonder if you can bow your head even one more time. Do it one more time,” West began to say. “Because if you rely on your feelings, there are going to be moments that come where your feelings tell you, ‘prayer doesn’t work.’ Your feelings tell you, ‘What’s the point?’ Your feelings tell you that, ‘There’s a ceiling up there, and that’s as far as your prayers are going to go, and they’re going to bounce back down.’
“But faith extending beyond that feeling and turning into that act of obedience and I’m going to continue to pray,” West continued. “I think about that is when our faith extends–when we make a choice that our faith is going to extend beyond the way that we feel and we’re going to dare to believe that what the Bible says is true, that in James, it says, ‘If we draw near to God, He will draw near to us,’ It doesn’t say he will immediately fix the thing. It just says that He’s going to be close to you. And what if our decision to pray is the decision to say, ‘You know what? God being close to me is enough. That’s what I need and He’s going to carry me through whatever it is that I’m going through.’ In His own time, He will work all things for the good.”
Movieguide® previously reported on West’s song, “Don’t Stop Praying”:
“‘DON’T STOP PRAYING’ is OUT NOW,” West posted on Instagram. “Every year I land on a personal theme that becomes a mission statement for my own faith journey. This year’s theme is don’t stop praying.”
“We’ve all been to a place where discouragement can make us wonder if God really hears our prayers,” he continued. “I wrote this song for anybody who’s ever felt like giving up or losing their faith. I couldn’t be more excited to start the new year off with this new song. I hope it encourages anyone who hears it to join me in a commitment to prayer in 2024.”
“Pray for our families, for our friends, for our enemies, for our nation, for our world. God hears the prayers of his people, so don’t stop praying,” West urged.
