When cynicism and negativity continue to dominate our new cycles, positive content is on the rise in other parts of the entertainment world as audiences seek uplifting stories.
“[Positivity] is clearly an important need, given the power of advertising to shape hearts and minds in America and the amount of negativity that Americans are seeing their their social media and news feeds,” said Dave Morgan, the president and CEO of marketing company Simulmedia who has noticed an uptick in positive ads. “We are seeing more positive messages on television this year.”
Uplifting content has also found increased popularity on television through the work of networks like Great American Family and UPtv. To encourage even more positivity, UPtv is hosting its second annual UPlift Someone Day.

“National UPlift Someone Day is a celebration of kindness, connection and the power of positive action,” Charley Humbard, Founder and CEO of UP Entertainment, said in a statement. “We’re proud to partner with organizations that share our mission to uplift others in meaningful ways. And as we head into the holiday season, we’re kicking off our Christmas programming on Oct. 30 because nothing lifts spirits quite like a feel-good holiday movie.”
Movies with a positive, uplifting story have also found increased popularity and are dominating the box office – beating out their cynical peers. Four of this year’s top five movies at the box office have a strong positive message, building on last year’s similar trend.
Part of the fuel behind the popularity of uplifting content is the fact that Hollywood is focusing on creating more TV shows and movies that fit the category. The success of shows like THE CHOSEN have proven that audiences crave positive stories, and Hollywood has finally begun to listen. At the same time, after experiencing such a negative period in their lives during the pandemic, many Americans are eager to move on to better days.
This has also fueled an increased interest in Christianity as people search for an immovable foundation after having their worlds were completely shaken.
“I think Christianity and values are just making their comeback [in Hollywood],” explained director Jon Erwin. “There’s a lot of executives in the entertainment industry that are just titans…that for a long they they were content…sort of keeping at day some of the more damaging trends in the industry, but I think there’s been a shift in content in the industry where it’s like, enough is enough. I have to align my values with my career.”
Whatever the cause of this increased interest in positive content, it is incredible to see, and given that the media we consume affects how we live our lives, it is certainly contributing to a more positive world overall.
