Celebrity chef Guy Fieri updated fans on his health following an on-set accident that left him wheelchair-bound.
“I’m doing better. It was definitely a trying holiday, but you know what, you get some real appreciation for having the ability to just get up and walk around and do everything you used to,” Fieri told PEOPLE. “I’m a big CrossFit and hiking guy, so eight weeks of no hiking has driven me kind of crazy. But I’m looking forward to it, trying to take it easy.”
He explained that he injured himself while shooting an episode of FLAVOR TOWN FOOD FIGHT. Fieri fell down a flight of stairs and “one foot went forward and the other foot got caught on the threshold,” tearing his quad muscle. He underwent surgery in November.

Speaking to Fox News about how the injury affected the show’s production, Fieri said, “We figured out how to pivot through it and to have some creative filming techniques. But it’s been a run, and now I’m up here at the ranch, where it’s always about hiking and outdoors, and you know, beautiful.”
Fieri added that he has struggled with being in a wheelchair for eight weeks and is ready to get a cast on his leg and start rehab, saying, “I want to get after it as fast as possible.”
“That was the worst thing I’ve been through in the last 20 years,” he told PEOPLE. “But now I’ll be up and ready and healthy and rolling by the time we hit the Super Bowl for sure.”
Fieri was referring to his annual Guy’s Flavortown Tailgate event, where he and attendees celebrate the Super Bowl with good food and performances from musical acts like country star Tucker Wetmore and DJ duo Loud Luxury.
“Coming into year four, there is no other Big Game Weekend event like the Flavortown Tailgate,” Fieri said in a statement. “As per usual, we’re throwing the biggest tailgate of the year and the best part, it’s free! Family friendly, killer music and of course, food and booze everywhere — you’re not gonna want to miss kicking off Big Game Sunday the Flavortown way!”
The event will also help provide food for families in need; The Food Recovery Network and sponsor Hellmann’s will help “recover surplus food,” per Billboard. Last year, the event provided 8,000 meals to people in need.
Fieri’s fans are glad to hear the chef is on the mend and excited to see what he has in store for this year’s Super Bowl weekend!
