It’s been 20 years since FREAKY FRIDAY’s premiere, but for star Chad Michael Murray, walking on set for the upcoming sequel “felt like no time” had passed.
“It’s so trippy, for lack of a better word,” he told Parade of FREAKIER FRIDAY. “There’s this TWILIGHT ZONE aspect that you left that dimension and you came back 23 years later. You’ve had entire lives in between, yet here we are, and everything just still feels the same, and the chemistry is still the way it was, and it’s pretty incredible.”
Co-star Lindsay Lohan agreed, telling Elle, “I’ve never thought I would do a movie where there would be a sequel. It’s something you don’t really think about. And then when you get to do it, and bring a character that you knew so well back to life, in a sense, it’s exciting.”
Murray, who played heartthrob Jake in the hit Disney movie, said no one was expecting to make a sequel while they were working on it, “but then here you are.”
“We’re in different places in our lives, and the story made so much sense to be made now, which is pretty cool,” the actor explained.
In FREAKIER FRIDAY, Murray said they “cover all the generations,” adding, “Parenthood is a trial-and-error thing. So if you’re a parent, boom. And if you grew up watching this, I think the nostalgia hit is going to be out of this world [and] incredibly surreal. What a beautiful thing to be able to make for everybody.”

FREAKIER FRIDAY isn’t the only role Murray is making a return to — the actor’s latest project, SULLIVAN’S CROSSING, was just renewed for a fourth season on The CW after it rocketed up Netflix’s charts.
According to Deadline, the show entered “the streamer’s weekly charts at No. 3, scoring 3M views and 22M hours watched in its first week on the service.”
“We’ve seen this before,” The CW’s president, Brad Schwartz, told the outlet. “We’ve seen it with BREAKING BAD. We’ve seen it with RIVERDALE. We’ve seen shows become really, really successful on their first window platform, and then find a whole [new] audience on the second window platform, and then that audience comes back and finds the new season.”
He continued, “I feel proud that we’ve created a show that millions of people are watching, and now millions more people are watching, and the goal for us is to be really good marketers, and to go find that audience that is finding it on Netflix and tell them, ‘Hey, Season 4 is coming to The CW.’”
From FREAKIER FRIDAY’s upcoming premiere to the promise of more episodes of SULLIVAN’S CROSSING, Murray’s fans can’t wait to see more of the actor!
