In an interview with CBN News, Chicago Cubs pitcher Matthew Boyd got candid about his journey of learning to trust Jesus Christ in all areas of his life.

“Jesus, man. I mean, He’s everything! He’s a teacher, comforter and savior. Doesn’t matter what’s in front of you. Believe in what He said. Trust in that. Trust in His words,” Boyd said.

The pitcher believes Jesus cares about all areas of our lives, no matter how seemingly insignificant.

“He knows our hearts in the clubhouse after a good game and a bad game. He knows what it’s like to throw a three-two breaking ball after missing with it. He knows what it’s like to try to go field a ground ball. He knows what it’s like to try to be a dad,” he continued. “Don’t limit Him. You see Jesus more and more in everything that you do. I don’t know what tomorrow holds. I’m glad I’m not writing it. ‘Cause every time I try to, He always writes something better. We’ll just see how that goes.”

Outside of baseball, Boyd and his wife, Ashley, work to rescue kids who are at risk of sex trafficking in Uganda through Kingdom Home, their nonprofit organization focused on “ending child exploitation through prevention.”

“I think what God has done in Kingdom Home is really, really cool. Ashley, she’s amazing in how hard she works and all the house parents that are pouring into the kids every single day, and the team of employees that are both in America and in Uganda,” Boyd told CBN. “It’s all Him. The doors that he opens, how he continues to bring the right people around these kids. We’re just kind of answering the call and moving how he’s calling us to. Children living as they should, and they’re not in situations where they’re vulnerable anymore.”

In a post on Instagram, Kingdom Home explained why prevention is the best way to end sex trafficking.

“To date, prevention has become the most effective way to end child slavery,” the account wrote. “When we remove at-risk children from their vulnerable situation and place them in our homes, we are not just preventing each individual child from exploitation. Prevention also causes a significant ripple effect in the communities we are serving.”

Not only is Boyd on a mission to help the Cubs reach the World Series this season, but he also wants to proclaim the name of Jesus, which he does both on the field and through his ministry.
