One dad’s hilariously formal text messages to his family are blowing up online.

“When I first told him that the video went viral, he literally didn’t get it, because he was like, ‘I don’t understand. Like, this is just how I speak,’” Kelly Myers told TODAY.

Kelly started posting TikToks with screenshots of her dad Everton’s text messages in 2021, and the videos quickly went viral.

“I repaired the furnace ignitor wire (repurchased from Amazon); and it’s working well. The new ignitor (left) replaced with the old burnt-out ignitor (right). By doing this repair by myself, we saved around $400-$500 (or more),” one text read.

Another text stated, “Water has been restored to the refrigerator. There are 2 new filters installed. Therefore, bottled water purchases will be suspended.”

“I talk the way I talk, and I write the way I write, because it’s who I am as a person,” Everton told TODAY. “So I’m just me. You know, what you see is what you get.”

Everton isn’t the only dad whose texting style has the internet in stitches. In 2023, Dr. Thomas D’Orazio’s message to his family about group texting went viral.

“I can’t keep up with the pressure of always having to lol or like or heart everyone’s random thoughts, pics and amusements,” he texted. “For all future texts: I love them, laugh at them, or like them, unless it’s bad, then I dislike them. In perpetuity. I can’t live with this pressure. I’m out.”

His daughter Allison told TODAY, “When I read it, I burst out laughing…[My mom, my sister, and I] are very extroverted and send random stuff all day long. He’s so kind and and engaged with our lives — he’s like the perfect human being — and I think it was stressing him out that he can’t respond to all the messages.”

One dad managed to turn the tables on his kids; instead of them making his texts go viral, Chip Leighton built a social media following by posting the hilarious questions his children would text him.

“My kid texted me this morning and asked, ‘Hey, did Grandma have kids?’ Or one kid asked, ‘How does eating cold turkey help you quit smoking?’” he said, via WGME CBS-13.

Whether it’s overly formal texts from a dad,or funny questions from teens, it looks like both parents and kids alike can have plenty of fun with each other’s text messages!
