Trisha Yearwood was a smashing success in the country music industry, but she slowed down her singing career after marriage because she wanted to focus on her family.
“When I married Garth [Brooks] and I moved to Oklahoma, I stopped,” Yearwood said at the “In Her Own Words: An Evening with Trisha Yearwood” event. “I wasn’t touring 200 days a year anymore. I was a bonus mom to three children, and I was trying to make a marriage work, because I had learned that marriages don’t work if you’re never together.”
She wanted to prioritize family, “cook dinner” and go to “soccer games.”
The two married in 2005 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
She previously said the first time she was left alone to watch her two stepdaughters was the “most important turning point” in her life.

“I learned to jump in with both feet and not be so scared of making a mistake,” she said.
“…They were a gift that I didn’t know I needed,” she said of being a stepmom to three. “I didn’t know how much children brought into your life until I got a chance to be a part of their lives.”
Last year, Yearwood was honored with the inaugural June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award at the 2024 CMT Music Awards. She credited her family for making her who she is.
“I was raised by really great parents,” Yearwood said. “My mom and dad, who are both passed on, but they’re still with me … My sister’s my date tonight because Garth couldn’t be here. It’s family. It’s about how you’re raised.”
She said, “I always say, ‘I don’t always do the right thing, but I know what the right thing is because of how I was raised.’ It’s them; it’s my family.”
Eventually, Yearwood turned to other passions, like cooking. Her show, TRISHA’S SOUTHERN KITCHEN aired from 2012 to 2022.
Yearwood got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in March.
At the time, she said Brooks is “my person. He has accomplished so much in his career, but he is happiest when other people win. “And I think he just believes in me so much, and he believes that I deserve more than I believe I deserve, so I know that he’s genuinely the happiest person here today.”
Brooks said last year, “I’m lucky to know her as an artist, I’m lucky to know her as a husband, really lucky to know her as my best friend.”
Yearwood’s devotion to her family is up there with her remarkable achievements in music and beyond.
