Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton handles the pressures of college football by focusing on consistency and “staying in the Word.”
In an interview with “I Am Athlete,” Stockton credited his parents for setting his foundation of Christ.
“My parents, they’re awesome,” he said in the interview. “I think the biggest thing they did was, you know, [help me keep] my faith first. Just believing in the Lord and just trusting His process. And then second, I think they did a good job of keeping me level-headed.”

Stockton manages the chaos of fame, football and more through “being consistent.”
“Just staying in the Word and surrounding yourself with great people, like-minded,” he explained. “Our team chaplain’s awesome. He does a great job during the week and on Saturdays.”
Whether he’s on the field, on the plane, in class or anywhere else, Stockton does his best to share God’s love.
“The biggest thing for me is the Golden Rule,” he said. “That’s what I try to live by: treat others like you’d want to be treated. That’s kind of how I’ve carried myself my whole life.”
This past weekend, Stockton secured “three scoring drives in regulation, took a hard hit in overtime that knocked his helmet off, and still led the Bulldogs to a touchdown on that drive to win, 22-19,” Sports Spectrum reported.

That was the second time in just five weeks that Stockton “produced a five-touchdown performance against a top-10 opponent while throwing just five incompletions, as he also accomplished the feat in Georgia’s 43-35 win over Ole Miss on Oct. 18.”
As voting will soon begin, Stockton very well may be considered a recipient for the Heisman Trophy.
This season alone, “Stockton has racked up 27 total touchdowns, 2,619 yards of total offense, and has a 70.7 completion rate on the season. Perhaps the most impressive thing about Stockton this season has been his performances in the fourth quarter. He has thrown for five touchdowns, zero interceptions, and has just seven incompletions with 86 percent completion rate in the fourth quarter this season, the highest in all of college football,” Sports Illustrated shared.
Regardless of what happens in the future, Stockton remains focused on his faith and staying consistent in God’s Word.
The Bulldogs are set to host Charlotte on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. ET. The following week, Georgia will face their rival, Georgia Tech, in their final regular-season game.
