Are more Reagans going to make an appearance in BLUE BLOODS spinoff BOSTON BLUE? It sounds like it!
Fans already saw Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) return at the beginning of BOSTON BLUE Season 1, but creatives behind the show just revealed that she’s not the only one.
“We can tell you that Erin will not be the only one, but that’s all we’re allowed to say,” executive producer Brandon Sonnier told TV Insider.
Co-creator Brandon Margolis added, “There are new characters that will show up. We will meet more members of the Silver family, and we will see members of the Reagan family we have not yet seen. We’re still a fairly new show, and so our world is still growing and expanding as we get deeper into the characters’ lives.”
BOSTON BLUE sees Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan take “a job with the Boston PD and [get] paired with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), part of a law enforcement family comprised of District Attorney Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben), Police Superintendent Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson), rookie cop Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner) and Rev. Edwin Peters (Ernie Hudson). Reagan hopes to reconnect with his son, Sean (Mika Amonsen), in Boston.”

Sonnier and the rest of the creative team can’t wait to keep discovering how all the characters fit together in the new world of BOSTON BLUE.
“We now have a good handle on the characters we’ve introduced — drawing a full picture of who the Silver family is and how the Reagans have integrated into that family,” he said. “Now that the groundwork has been laid, the second half of this season is just a full-on exciting exploration of how these relationships grow. How does this family adapt to the environment that’s sort of changing around them as the Reagans have come in? The back half of this season has been some of the most exciting television that I’ve ever been a part of.”
Part of Movieguide®’s review of episode 8 reads, “Season One is well-made, with excellent performances. It has a strong Christian, moral worldview. Characters attend church, pray and quote Scripture. People get advice from Jonah and Sarah’s grandfather, a Baptist pastor.”
The review continues “Episode 8 of BOSTON BLUE: Season One also features scenes focusing on family, helping those struggling with addiction and telling the truth. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children and young teenagers for some action violence, light foul language, and strong miscellaneous immorality.”
Though leaving BLUE BLOODS was difficult for Wahlberg, he’s grateful to carry on his character’s story.
Star of the show Donnie Wahlberg recently opened up with CBS Sunday Morning about how ending the flagship show BLUE BLOODS and moving on to BOSTON BLUE was very difficult.
“When we were told that it [BLUE BLOODS] was ending, I didn’t believe it. I denied it. I resisted it. I fought it, and I encouraged fans to fight it, the cast to fight it. And to do whatever we could to keep it going,” he admitted in an interview with CBS SUNDAY MORNING.
Despite his disappointment in the show ending, Wahlberg saw “opportunity” in the new series.
“I finally got a call about BOSTON BLUE and the opportunity to carry on with Danny Reagan,” he said. “And you know, I didn’t jump at the opportunity. I took a beat because it was like, okay I don’t know, I love BLUE BLOODS, I don’t know if I could do this. And I read the script, and it was fantastic, and I saw opportunities to bring BLUE BLOODS to it but to let it be its own thing…And suddenly it started to become this great opportunity. I think we found something really special in it.”
Though Season 1 isn’t quite finished yet, CBS already greenlit a second season. The next new episode of BOSTON BLUE debuts on Friday, Feb. 27.
