Moms, ‘You’re the Heart of the Home’: A Reminder from Sadie Robertson Huff

Sadie Robertson Huff’s 4-year-old, Honey, just told her the sweetest thing — and it’s a reminder to all moms.

“As I was putting Honey to bed last night, she leaned over and whispered in my ear, ‘You’re the heart of this home, Mom,’” Huff recalled in a social media post on Thursday. “I couldn’t tell if I heard her right, so I asked her to say it again. Again, she said, ‘You’re the heart of this home.’”

“She paused and said, ‘Just like Judy Hops is the heart of ZOOTOPIA… remember when the Lion said that about Judy?’ 😭😭😭”

Huff doesn’t always feel like she’s doing a great job, but that was such a blessing to hear.

“I can get too busy, the house is messy, I can get impatient and lose my cool, but to hear that despite all my weaknesses, my four-year-old thinks of me when she sees Judy Hops… and that she sees me as the heart of our home, is ALL that matters. ❤️,” she said.

The moment reminded her of when God chose David to be king.

“It didn’t look at the outward appearance — he looked at the heart,” she continued. “You might not feel ‘the best for the job’ because maybe you’re looking at others and thinking everyone else is crushing it on the outside. But you are not chosen to be your little one’s mom because you’re crushing it all the time with the house, the healthy meals, and all of the extra — you’re chosen because of your heart.”

“You are the heart of the home. ❤️” she said.

Huff’s post received over 100,000 likes and lots of comments saying how sweet that was.

She said, “We are the heart of our home. We set the tone, the mood, the pace, and we create the atmosphere with a bad attitude or a good one. We get to choose how we react to every second of our day which sets the tone for how everyone else’s day will go.”

“…Some days it’s hard to find, but it is always there if you look for it. There is always a positive moment, a laugh, a smile, no matter how fleeting,” she said.

The Catholic Mom also agrees with the definition.

“As mothers, we are to nurture the lives in our care,” The Catholic Mom said. “Just as the human heart feeds life into our veins, we feed life into our families through our love, our service, and our joy. All eyes are upon us from our beloved husbands and children.”

And a body can’t survive without the heart. So moms, just remember, you are your family’s lifeblood, the heart of your home.
