Christian artist Danny Gokey knows the importance of standing strong in faith, recently reflecting on how people in the Bible leaned on the Lord through struggles.

“The Bible says in Psalms that he was tested in chains, the word of the Lord was tested, that he [Joseph] was ripped away from his family,” Gokey said in a recent video posted to Instagram.

He continued, reflecting on how in moments where God seems unfaithful to His promises, we need to trust that we “don’t understand His ways.”

Isaiah 55:9 supports this idea when it says, “’For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’”

Gokey said, “We found out that God had His way with Joseph…and then he began to save the people of Israel because God’s ways wasn’t just to put Joseph on a high pedestal so that you’re like, ‘Yeah, man, I’m famous.’ No, there was a purpose…there’s purpose behind the suffering that you go through.”

“Look at Abraham,” he added. “[God] said He would give him a son.” This refers to Genesis 18:10, which says “The Lord said, ‘I will be sure to return to you at this time next year. And your wife Sarah will have a son.’”

Gokey said, “Well, ‘God, where is my son?’ See…you have to find out the ways of God. Your hopes can be shaken. Abraham’s hope was shaken. Joseph’s hope was shaken. Job’s hope was shaking, but the word of the Lord still stood strong, because His word never fails.”

Gokey concluded with an encouraging word to the audience.

“Now, God is a miracle worker. He’s a way-maker. He’s a healer. He’s a promise keeper, right? We know the songs, but how He does it is where we have to stand in faith, right? Your hope might be shaken, but your faith can stay strong, because that’s how you get to the promises of God.”

Gokey often to use his platform to encourage others with messages such as these.

Earlier this year, he explained why he’d rather stand strong in his beliefs than try to be popular.

“This is why we have the Bible. People change, but God doesn’t, right? The Bible is to help us remain objective so that we don’t become subjective with the ideology of the world,” Gokey said.

“I’d rather be principled than popular,” he continued, “And here’s why: because the Bible says ‘Unless the Lord builds a house, those who labor, labor in vain.’ When you build on the principles of the Bible, you’re building God’s kingdom.”

Right now, he’s out on his “Hope Nights” tour alongside artists We Are Messagers and John Reddick. The tour runs through May in different locations throughout the US.

If you’re struggling today, take heart in stories like Joseph’s and trust that God has a perfect plan.
