Danny Gokey Celebrates National Day of Prayer: ‘Our Country Needs God’

By Movieguide® Contributor

For National Prayer Day, Christian artist and AMERICAN IDOL alum Danny Gokey is reminding people about the importance of prayer.

“Today is National Day of Prayer, and many of you guys know this about my wife, she has a prayer team she’s been a part of for years. We’re down in Washington, DC. I just wanted to remind you guys to pray today,” he shared in an Instagram clip on May 2.

“But the whole point of that is, ‘My people were called to humble themselves, seek my face turn from the wicked ways,” Gokey quoted 2 Chronicles 7:14. “I will hear from heaven. I will forgive them and [heal] their land.”

Gokey asked his followers to “cry out” to God for America because it desperately needs God.

“Our country needs God. We’ve moved away so far from the principals and the foundations of the word of God, but the word of God is for our good,” he said.

“The word of God is for the benefit and health of our families, our country, every part of us. Just wanted to encourage you guys to pray. That’s it,” he finished.

In 2020, Gokey joined I AM SECOND virtually to celebrate the National Day of Prayer.

“We agree with this day of prayer and praying for our country and praying for the people of our country,” He said. “…We’ve been leaning in. We’ve been asking the Lord what is it that you’re saying, and I believe and I hope that after this quarantine we’re gonna step into more of a time of fruitfulness than busyness, and I want to pray into that and that we would lean into what God is doing during these times.”

A consistent believer in the power of prayer, Gokey even has a song with Natalie Grant called “The Prayer.” The song is a prayer to God for safety and peace.

Beyond prayer, Gokey often uses social media as a platform to share his faith and other Biblical messages.

Movieguide® reported on the singer’s hope-filled messages for women in 2021:

Christian singer Danny Gokey said that while he preaches an adamant pro-life message, he also wants to encourage post-abortive women that there is hope.

“I am pro-baby and pro-mama, 100% of the way,” Gokey said in a video published by Live Action. “If you’re watching this and you’ve had an abortion, know this: that you are loved, you are accepted and you have a place at the table — and Jesus’ blood can wash away that wound and scar.”
