Benjamin Watson: God ‘Is Not Limited to Culture’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Former NFL tight end Benjamin Watson is reflecting on what God taught him during a recent mission trip to Kenya with Water Mission.
Water Mission builds “safe water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions in developing nations and disaster areas.” While he was helping further this goal, Watson realized that he had put God in a box.
“So, you see people who know the same Jesus you do in their language, in their experiences. The Holy Spirit has entered into their life, and they are singing praise songs that are totally different from yours because they’re in another part of the world,” Watson told Sports Spectrum. “But the same God that came to the earth in flesh, who lived, who died, who was raised again, is the same person they’re praising.”
“And there’s always this moment where you say, wow, I’m really, really small. God is really, really big,” he added. “And if he’s this big, what have I not asked him for? What am I not trusting him for that I should be? Why am I putting limitations on him? He is the same God from yesterday, today and forever. And not only that, he’s not only not limited to time, he’s not limited to culture. Like, nobody has a monopoly on Jesus.”
He shared more about Water Mission in an Instagram post.
“The global water crisis impacts millions of men women and children around the world,” Watson wrote. “I’m still processing all that we witnessed with water mission in Kenya. From safe water projects that are providing clean reliable water to thousands to the warm welcome from communities in need, I am humbled after witnessing God’s people love and serve their brothers and sisters with determination and excellence.”
“I won’t forget how we ate, sang and worshipped the God of all nations together,” he continued. “The @water_mission staff are real life heroes. Thank you for sharing your be culture with us and being such gracious hosts. Keep pressing on.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Watson:
Former NFL tight end Benjamin Watson wants to be a “voice for the voiceless” through pro-life work and advocacy.
“As believers, we are called to be voices for the voiceless. And that manifests itself in a lot of different ways,” Watson told CBN’s Faithwire.
“Right now, is a very contentious time in America,” he added. “Right now, in this post-Roe era, there’s just so many narratives to combat and so many people that are trying to figure out what’s the best way to serve. So, it has been an honor and I believe a duty to speak into this topic.”
“I believe that the human person, starting from fertilization or conception to natural death, bears the image of God,” Watson said, according to News Nation. “I believe that every person has inherent value, whether they are liberal or conservative. Whether they come from any sort of ethnic background or any socio-economic status.”
“As people of faith, it’s imperative that we speak about certain issues because there are others who may feel the same way,” he continued. “But, because of their circumstances, their job, their family pressures, they feel silenced.”
