Bill Abbott Shares Vision For Great American Pure Flix: ‘A Different Experience’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Bill Abbott, CEO of Great American Pure Flix, shared his vision for the rebranded streaming service in a recent interview with actress and director Shari Rigby.

“Well, we’ve we have really increased our offering in just two short months,” Abbott explained after Rigby asked what’s new about the platform. “The beauty of Great American Pure Flix is we’ll be capitalizing on the synergies that exist between both the linear side of the business and the streaming side of the business, and so we’ll have content across both.”

Movieguide® previously reported, “Great American Media has relaunched its streaming platform as Great American Pure Flix, following the network’s merger with Sony’s Pure Flix in June.”

“We are all about creating a different experience than exists in the streaming world,” Abbott shared, explaining why the new platform is important.

“We want to be a place that you can come to, and you click on a movie, and you know you’re going to get a certain experience. And that means faith. That means family. That means country. That means supporting the things I think that are very important to our culture and very important to people and that they don’t get from the typical media outlet,” he added.

The rebranded streaming service comes just in time for the Christmas movie season.

“There will be a plethora of Christmas movies and faith-based movies and things like DIVINE INFLUENCER that are coming to the platform that will be just tremendous,” Abbott shared. “But, you know, one of my favorites is AN UNLIKELY ANGEL, which is a movie starring Jillian Murray, who we’ve worked with a lot on the Great American Family side.”

Deadline reported that other upcoming releases on Great American Pure Flix include “HARVEST HOMECOMING (October 6), starring Trevor Donovan and Jessica Lownde; and BIRTHRIGHT OUTLAW (October 13), the new western from director Aaron Burns starring Lucas Black and Sarah Drew.”

“New Christmas movies will also stream in November, featuring Great American Family players such as Candace Cameron Bure, Lori Loughlin, Danica McKellar, Trevor Donovan, and Jen Lilley,” Deadline added.

The initial merger between the companies occurred in June 2023.

“The successful merger joins Great American Media’s family-friendly linear and FAST (free ad-supporting streaming TV) channels with the Pure Flix faith and family SVOD (subscription video on demand) service into a consolidated entity,” a statement said at the time.

“The merger marks a significant milestone for our company, our employees, our business partners and our fans as we take an important step in our mission to become the leader in trusted, faith and family entertainment for a large and under-served market,” said Abbott.

Movieguide® previously reported on the rebranded streaming platform:

“Great American Pure Flix fits seamlessly with the Great American Media family,” said Bill Abbott, President and CEO of Great American Media. “Our mission is to provide families with quality entertainment that celebrates faith, family, and hometown values wherever and however they enjoy watching.”

Great American Pure Flix is now “the 24/7 companion to Great American Family with uplifting films and series.”

“Our family is getting bigger! More original movies. More faith & family. More inspirational stories,” Pure Flix revealed on Instagram.

The combined service announced a slate of new movies that will hit the platform in the coming months.
