Denver Broncos starting quarterback Bo Nix emphasized his confidence in God’s plans after a broken ankle during Sunday’s NFL Divisional Round playoff game abruptly ended his season.

After the game, head coach Sean Payton revealed the seriousness of the quarterback’s injury.

“Not good news,” he said in the post-game press conference. “On the second-to-last play in overtime, Bo fractured a bone in his right ankle. He’s scheduled to have surgery on Tuesday of this week, which will put him out for the rest of the season. He said he’s ready to go.”

“It was the second-to-last play before he threw the pass to Mims. Birmingham is where he’ll have the surgery with Dr. Waldrop, and I don’t really think there are any other questions. You know, in other words, this just is what it is, and we felt like it’d be best to just tell everyone now,” Payton added.

The Broncos defeated the Bills 33-30 last Sunday.

Nix hadn’t addressed fans until Wednesday night.

“The last few days have been hard to put into words,” he began an Instagram post. “What started as one of the most exciting games I’ve ever been a part of ended with some of the most devastating football news I’ve ever received. This is not how I imagined my season would come to an end, but our season has been defined by overcoming adversity and responding to it.”

“I can’t express how much this team and organization mean to me and how much I believe in them. I couldn’t be more proud of our guys. I couldn’t be more confident in Jarrett. And I couldn’t be more excited for what’s next,” Nix continued. “Thank you all for the kind words, love and support over the last few days. Thankful for my trainers, Beau, Vince and Dr. Waldrop for taking great care of me.”

“God never says oops, and He is always good. He has big plans for this team. We’re not finished, as a matter of fact, we’re just getting started. We’re just going to keep climbing higher,” the quarterback emphasized. “Go Broncos.”

Despite the tragic news, Nix remains hopeful for the future and is ready to cheer his team on for the NFL AFC Championship against the New England Patriots on Sunday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. MST. Back-up quarterback Jarrett Stidham is ready to take the field as the new QB1.
