Candace Cameron Bure says faith carried her and husband Valeri Bure through a period of “deep brokenness.”

“You know, we all go through disappointments in life at times, and that can look so different for so many people, whether it’s through family moments or loss in loved ones or grief through career, you know, not having life pan out the way that you want to,” the FULL HOUSE actress told Fox News. “And yet God is in the restoration business, and that’s what I love so very much.”

Bure spoke in greater detail on the topic in an interview with Us Weekly, saying her almost-30-year marriage has seen “valleys of real struggle,” but that the couple built their relationship “back up” every time.

“There were times of deep brokenness that I felt. But God is in the restoration business,” she said. “[God] loves to restore and make all things new, and He certainly has.”

The GAF star also spoke about “a really, really rough season” in the couple’s marriage during an episode of “The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast.”

“At one point, [our son] Lev preached, like, a 45-minute sermon on marriage to us,” Bure recalled. “Just had his Bible open on the couch and just talked about it. And I’ll never forget, ’cause he said, ‘You know, I know I haven’t been married and I’m just a young kid, and so it’s probably hard to take marriage advice from someone this young [who] never experienced it before, but I don’t need to be married to know what the word of God says.’”

Bure said her son asked the couple “Have you done everything you can? Is there one step of grace? Is there just some bit more grace you could give?”

“I mean, we walked away from that and, you know, Val and I were like, ‘Huh. We raised some pretty good kids,’” Bure continued. “It was so in our face, but that was like the pivotal moment. It really changed for us after that talk, and there was a lot more to it. But you know it’s a whole different scenario when your kids sit you down to have a talk and go, ‘Are you being as mature as you can be and what God says?’”

Every relationship has its rough patches, but for Bure and her husband, their deep commitment to their faith — and each other — has always seen them through.
