Anjelah Johnson may be known as a clean comedian who is also a Christian, but there was a time before she became famous where a comedy career didn’t look hopeful. In an interview with BACHELOR Nation’s Kaitlyn Bristowe, Johnson shared how her career began.

“I would say my sister is the one who didn’t let me give up. You know, I had moved to Hollywood. I started as an extra,” Johnson revealed.

To Bristowe’s surprise, Johnson was on a very well-known sitcom.

“I was an extra on FRIENDS,” she said. “I was a regular at Central Park. Everything in my life was saying, like, you tried, but it’s time to go home. Like, you have no money, you don’t have no agent, you don’t have any opportunities. Let’s pack it up.”

Although Johnson was tempted to throw in the towel, her sister helped her stay so she could keep following her dreams.

“The only reason I stayed in LA is because my sister would send me money to pay my rent, she would send me gift certificates to the grocery store,” Johnson explained. “She was like, ‘Don’t give up. You’re right where you’re supposed to be. Don’t give up.’ And then that, as well as like, I felt in my Spirit that God was telling me ‘I’m not done with you yet. I know everything looks like you’re done, but I’m not done.’”

She added, “And so, I stayed and I waited, and next, you know, the nail salon video pops off. Couple months later, I end up booking mad TV. Couple months later, I start touring nationally. My life had completely changed.”

Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Because Johnson did not give up, she eventually found success as a comedian.

Today Johnson continues to do her comedy tours with the support of her husband Manuel Reyes and their young daughter Rosie.

Last week, Johnson posted a sweet photo reel of the tour to Instagram. “East Coast…y’all know how to bring the energy!! Thank you all so much for coming out..next up, Ohio and Indiana!”

People showed support in the comment section. Jenn Johnson of Bethel music said, “Love you!!!!” Another person added, “Aww.. I love it all! Rosie is the cutest 🥰🤗”

Johnson’s story is a sweet reminder that even if a dream isn’t working out now, God always has a bigger and better plan.
