Danica McKellar Says Reading The Bible Helped Her Get ‘To Know God Better’

Danica McKellar says her self-challenge to finish reading the Bible in one year helped her get “to know God better.”

The WONDER YEARS star completed her 2023 goal of reading the Bible and is on “round two right now.”

“It’s just doing something regularly that’s always a challenge, right?” she explained while walking the red carpet at this year’s Movieguide® Awards. “Because you get busy. And my life doesn’t have a regular schedule to it, doing movies and then not doing movies, but I found that if I did just two sessions a day for a little while, I could catch up, like after shooting a movie. That’s the most challenging.”

McKellar added, “The most rewarding thing is just getting to know God better and understanding some of the patterns and going, ‘Oh, this theme of ego versus humility’ is really strong through the whole story. Maybe we should pay attention to that.”

McKellar has spoken a lot about her Bible challenge, sharing updates with fans and discussing what she learned and what resonated with her as she read.

In one Instagram livestream, she said, “I find something very interesting about the Lord’s Prayer. There’s praise, there’s asking for things, and there’s one thing that we are going to do in return, and that one thing is that we have to forgive people who’ve done bad things to us… And that’s like, one of the hardest things to do, right?”

“That’s our challenge: to forgive others the way we want to be forgiven,” the actress continued. “It benefits our souls because we can let go of bitterness, which will only harm us if we cling to it.”

Movieguide® previously reported on McKellar’s Bible challenge:

Danica McKellar updated fans on her 2023 commitment to read the entire Bible this year during a new episode of her Great American Community web series FAITH BITS.

“My goal is to read the entire Bible this year, and I’ve heard it’s very doable,” she started. “They say it’s like 10 to 15 minutes of reading a day.”

“I have a lot to learn,” she explained. “I’m still figuring it out.”

However, for McKellar, her goal “is not to understand everything.” Instead, her goal “is to read it all.”

She then shared that the goal of reading the Bible is not to understand the book itself, but to “understand God better.”

In addition to attending, McKellar co-hosted the 31st annual Movieguide® Awards alongside Trevor Donovan.

“I’m a huge fan of this type of programming,” the actress said. “I’ve been doing it my whole life, family-friendly and helping bring people closer to God, helping people to feel uplifted, because there’s so much negativity in the world. So, to be a part of positive programming is awesome.”

McKellar frequently talks about her faith journey and how it has changed her life.

“In a nutshell, I’ve always believed in God of some sort, but then I found my relationship with Jesus in a very profound way about a year and a half ago. And it’s been an amazing journey becoming a believer,” she explained, via CBN.
