Don’t Understand What God’s Doing? Keep Trusting Him, Christian Artist Says

Danny Gokey is sharing how, even in the darkest times, he held onto his faith.

“Because of our limited understanding, here’s one thing I’ve learned,” the Christian singer-songwriter said in conversation with Kirk Cameron. “We have such limited understanding. This is why, when you don’t understand Him, always stay on God’s side.”

Gokey continued, “Because…like the disciples sticking with Him when they didn’t understand it, when you get to the end of that road, you’re like, ‘Oh, my gosh! I see it all!’ And now that you have a deeper trust, a deeper love, and a deeper understanding, and a deeper friendship with God. Hard times can really refine you and deepen a relationship. So yeah, I’d be a fool to walk away from the Lord.”

He also shared some advice for people who are struggling with their faith in hopeless times.

“It’s worth it to follow Him,” Gokey said. “Lean not on your own understanding. It’s time to get out of your own mind, because you are not your savior. God saves to the utmost.”

This message of hope is one that Gokey shares in one of his new songs, “Only For A Moment.”

“I love how it talks about hope,” he said in a recent Instagram video. “There is hope, even when it feels like everything is dark and gloomy and things aren’t working out. When God plants a seed, it goes in the dirt. It seems dark. The seed has to die, but it’s not the end of the situation. The seed is the beginning of the situation. You have to always keep [that] in mind — that even though you feel buried right now, you feel like life has kind of dealt you a bad hand. If something’s dying in your life, surrender to God and know that He’s going to work everything out together for your good, because God doesn’t waste any of the pain that we go through.”

“Only For A Moment” is from Gokey’s latest album, Sound Of Heaven

“The phrase ‘Sound of Heaven,’ and each of the songs on this album, will mean different things to different people in different places of life, and I believe that each of these songs communicate the hopeful messages of heaven in ways that will speak to people – whatever their season of life,” Gokey told CCM Magazine.

Christian artist Danny Gokey is opening up about his new album Sound of Heaven and what he hopes his fans take away from it.

“This project was really unique. As it turns out, it’s the reflection of all the different sides of me,” he told Fox News host Shannon Bream. “It’s, you know, very celebratory but…it starts with a prayer, like ‘Lord, what do you want to write through me?’ Because God is the greatest songwriter of all time. He’s the greatest artist of all time. We’re His children, so I’m thinking, like, I’m going right to the source.”

Gokey explained how as he wrote the album, he noticed all of the songs sounded very different from each other.

“I knew that heaven was so diverse, and heaven is reflected with different sounds, so it all just came together,” he said.

The singer continued by reflecting on how beautiful diversity is and how we need to embrace the differences around us.

“Our thinking becomes small when we don’t embrace everything that’s around us. We become very small-minded, unfortunately. I just think when people get to heaven, they’re going to be shocked, you know, at how amazing and how diverse and how awesome [it is],” he told Bream.
