The men of DUCK DYNASTY gave comedian John Crist their best marriage advice. Crist, who is currently engaged to news anchor Lydia Fielder, joined the family on a recent episode of The Unashamed podcast.

Jase Robertson spoke up first, sharing advice he’s learned from his 35-year marriage to Missy Robertson.

“I would say the number one advice is that there’s no amount of material that you can research or study up on, or no amount of premarital counseling that is prepared you for what’s fixing to happen to you,” Jase said.

Jase also added a lesson his dad Phil Robertson taught him, to not ask why she is crying, but to figure it out and comfort her.

“Don’t say why are you crying just figure it out. Don’t, don’t ask that,” he said.

Alan then chimed in with a very different piece of advice that applies to Crist specifically as a comedian.

“My favorite thing in the world is when I make Lisa laugh and… like, you do this for your living. I sort of do too, and so I love but you kind of feel like your own for that group,” he said. “And so, then you kind of want to turn off, because it makes sense you’ve been doing that. But, man, the laughter of the people that care about if you can say funny things, like, I’ll say things that get her laughing, there’s nothing better than that.”

Crist announced his engagement to Fielder eight weeks ago in a post to Instagram.

“The best thing that’s ever happened to me in my entire life by far, I love you so much @lyfeoflyd” he captioned in a series of sweet photos.

People in the comment section celebrated with the couple. “So wonderful! Congratulations!” one person said. Another person added, “Marriage is the best 👏👏👏👏”

The Tennessean recently interviewed Fielder last month, and she shared the story of how she and Crist met.

“We met at one of his shows at a small comedy club called The Grove in Lowell, Arkansas, and decided to give dating a try in early 2022,” she revealed.

“Our relationship started in a very unconventional way. Instead of dating in the same city and later navigating long distance, we began our relationship already living apart — me working as a news reporter in my hometown of Bentonville, Arkansas, and John touring as a comedian based in Nashville.”

Eventually, Fielder moved to Nashville to be closer to her then-boyfriend.

“It was a wild, upside-down way to get to know each other, but it worked. When my news contract ended after those seven months in 2022, we were both ready to be in the same city. John suggested I apply for jobs in Nashville — and I did, landing a role as weekend anchor at WSMV. Three years later, I’ve never been happier, in both my job and my relationship.”
