Family Adopts Son Left at Firehouse with Note Saying ‘I Love You’
By Movieguide® Contributor
The Tyler family is welcoming their newest adopted son, Samuel, to the family and expressing gratitude to the mother who dropped him off in a safe haven box at a local firehouse.
The baby boy was dropped off at the firehouse with a note that said, “I love you.” After seeing a news story about the baby boy, the Tyler family felt called to pursue his adoption.
“There was a news article that was posted online the day that he was surrendered, and I read that article, and I told Chris about it and prayed all weekend that we would be the foster home called to take him, and so that was a Thursday,” Brittany Tyler told The Story. “On Monday afternoon I got the call asking if we would be available to take him, and we said yes, and we were able to start visiting him in the hospital the very next day.”
“I remember holding him in my arms and knowing right off the bat, ‘This is my boy. This is the next member of our family,’” Chris Tyler shared.
Though the family does not know who Samuel’s biological mother is, they have expressed their gratitude for her and her decision to put him up for adoption rather than pursue abortion.
“We think the world of her. I mean, we may never know her. We may never have a chance to meet her. But we have a place in our hearts where we just truly cherish and love her for what she’s done for Sam and if she happens to see this or ever anything else that, you know, might show his picture because he is adorable, we just hope that she sees how healthy and happy his is,” said Chris. “I hope that she knows that we truly do love her.”
The family has adopted in the past and is excited to add another new member to their family.
“There is a good deal of work and time commitment that goes into [foster care], but the idea that we’re able to help these children and to love them and take care of them, it is truly worth it,” Chris said.
Movieguide® reported, “Samuel and the Tylers’ story was made possible by Kentucky’s Safe Infant Act, which allows someone to anonymously and legally give up their child at a designated location with no questions asked.”
This practice takes place around the world and is explored in the documentary THE DROP BOX. Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:
THE DROP BOX is a powerful documentary that encourages viewers to contemplate pro-life issues in a profound way. The entire movie is beautifully shot, with some marvelous images of Seoul. The movie’s Christian worldview views the subjects of abandonment and adoption in a biblical context. It uses biblical passages like Genesis 1:27 and Galatians 4:4-7 to affirm life and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which makes believers adopted sons of the Most High God. THE DROP BOX is an inspiring pro-life documentary that media-wise viewers may want to put on their must-see list.
Movieguide® previously reported on adoption:
Movieguide® Awards Host Jen Lilley shared about her experience with adoption in the Arizona Health & Living July 2020 cover issue.
“It’s a long road and that’s one of the things that makes it so emotional is you never know,” Lilley said.
For Lilley, her parenting is more important than her acting career and worth every challenge that comes her way.
“I think that if you want to take care of children in a really dedicated manner, especially children who are in foster care who really need a lot of love and attention, and they need a lot of consistency, then I would not have been able to successfully do the show at the same time… Something had to give,” Lilley told Forbes.
