‘Family Audience’: Chick-fil-A to Expand Into Entertainment Industry
By Movieguide® Contributor
Fast food chain Chick-fil-A is looking to expand into the entertainment industry.
Its new app, “PLAY,” may include “scripted podcasts and audio adventures, original animation, reality and game shows, and other live-action scripted or non-scripted programming.”
The company’s foray into entertainment doesn’t necessarily mean it will create content related to its brand. Rather, it aims to create content that “entertains our kids & family audience” and matches the “vision, heartbeat, and positioning of the Chick-fil-A brand,” the company said.
“The Chick-fil-A brand has a very specific and nuanced approach, and content will need to be carefully and thoughtfully brought to life in such a way that audiences both internal and external can quickly say, ‘That feels like Chick-fil-A,'” it continued.
To do this, Chick-fil-A is currently looking to fill an entertainment producer role. The job description says this person will be responsible for “overseeing the day-to-day creative production of original scripted and unscripted shows produced by Chick-fil-A and its various production partners and content creators.”
“Among the qualifications Chick-fil-A listed, applicants should have at least five years of working as a showrunner, principal creature producer or series writer under their belt, and they should have a college degree or an ‘equivalent combination of education, training and experience.’ The post also said the company prefers someone good with deadlines, attention to detail and other traits,” FOX Business reported.
This isn’t the first time the franchise has dipped into the entertainment industry.
Business Insider reported that the company recently released the latest installment of its original animated “short series, called STORIES OF EVERGREEN HILLS, which the company describes as ‘a fantastical animated universe where kindness is more than a mere friendly gesture. It’s the central purpose of the world and the mission of its heroes,'”
No official launch date for the app has been announced.
Movieguide® previously reported on Chick-fil-A:
While many restaurant chains focus on profit and business growth, former Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy recently shared that the mission behind America’s favorite fast food chain is to “glorify God.”
“At Chick-fil-A, we are very grounded on our corporate purpose, to be a purpose-driven organization,” Cathy recently shared. “That purpose is defined in the statement that we’re here to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that’s entrusted to us and have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.”
For Cathy, Chick-fil-A’s mission is about more than serving food or making money. It’s about treating customers well and reaching them at a deeper level.
“People are hungry to be treated with honor, dignity and respect. As delicious as our chicken bite sandwiches are, our fresh-squeezed lemonade and those hot waffle fries, people are in greater need of being restored and encouraged from an emotional standpoint,” he said.
