FIXER TO FABULOUS star Jenny Marrs never expected the twists and turns her life has taken — but she wouldn’t have it any other way.

“We [she and husband Dave Marrs] were talking about how in many things with our life, we haven’t really had these, like, grand plans,” she said during an appearance on the “Unexpected” podcast. “More of, ‘Okay, God, how can you use us now?’”

Marrs explained that this was a topic she thought about while writing her upcoming book, Trust God, Love People.

“I was telling the story of originally moving to Arkansas and just taking that first step of saying, ‘Yes, I’ll move,’” she shared. “And had I known then all that was going to come, I would have been overwhelmed. Like, had God said, ‘Here’s all the great stuff, here’s all the hard stuff, that’s going to happen to you,’ I probably would have said, ‘I’m good, thanks. I just want to stay safe and comfortable.’”

Marrs reflected on this journey in a recent Instagram post, writing, “Eight summers have passed since we agreed to a ‘one-time thing’ of renovating a home with cameras tagging along. After that pilot episode, we learned our show was picked up for a full season. At the time, the name of the show was ALMOST HOME. Two years later, the first season aired and was newly named, FIXER TO FABULOUS.”

“When we first said yes to filming a television show about our life and our work, we mistakenly assumed God would use the show to further the nonprofit work or to advocate for adoption. While He has done these things, our thinking was much smaller than what I now believe He had planned,” she wrote. “We have been given the immense privilege of sharing the personal stories of the families we work with with the world.”

Marrs will tell the story of this journey in greater detail in her upcoming book, due out Oct. 7.

“For the past three years, I’ve been quietly plugging away writing one story, one page, one chapter at a time. Small steps. Because the big picture of writing this book felt daunting,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

Marrs continued, “Each time I sat down to write, I’d pray about which stories to share and then I’d wonder how in the world I’d ever take all of these stories and find the common thread connecting them. Until, my editor read the first draft of the manuscript. She said simply: This book is about learning to trust God and then, in turn, loving the people He puts in my path as a result of that deep, abiding trust. And, a title was born: Trust God, Love People.”

We never know where life will take us or what God’s plan has in store but, as Marrs said, it can make life sweeter not to see the big picture right away.
