Though BLUE BLOODS actor Andrew Terraciano’s character Sean was recast for spinoff BOSTON BLUE, he couldn’t be happier for his replacement, Mika Amonsen.
According to PEOPLE, Terraciano played Danny Reagan’s (Donnie Wahlberg) son Sean on the hit CBS procedural from 2010 until its finale last year. When spinoff BOSTON BLUE debuted in October, Amonsen had taken over the role.
Terraciano learned of the recasting the day he graduated from New York University.
“They had spoken to my mom and she called me [crying],” he told Us Weekly. “They were like, ‘They might be looking for a different Sean.’ Shortly after we got the news, Donnie called me. It was a really beautiful moment of getting to hear from an old friend but also somebody that you respect so much and have learned so much from.”

“It’s beautiful because you’ll always remember every single line and every day that you had the opportunity to be that character,” he continued. “It doesn’t mean for even a second that somebody else can’t go and do something beautiful with it.”
“I got the joy of playing Sean, and I got to send him off into the world. Now somebody else gets that joy. We’re both getting to show what we do and then send Sean off into the world,” the actor added.
BOSTON BLUE follows Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan in a “universe expansion of BLUE BLOODS.”
“Reagan takes a job with the Boston PD and is paired with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), part of a law enforcement family comprised of District Attorney Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben), Police Superintendent Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson), rookie cop Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner) and Rev. Edwin Peters (Ernie Hudson). Reagan hopes to reconnect with his son, Sean (Mika Amonsen), in Boston,” CBS’ synopsis reads.
BOSTON BLUE co-showrunner Brandon Margolis explained the decision to recast Sean in a conversation with Variety in October.
“We love Andrew and the work he did over the years on BLUE BLOODS. Really, it came down to we’re telling a new chapter in both of their lives,” Margolis told Variety.
“It’s not just Sean who has joined the family business as it were and is turning over this new leaf, but it’s also now Danny Reagan is the father to a cop, which he’s never been before,” he continued. “It is the same character, it’s the same relationship, but it’s also completely different. “We love what Mika has brought to Sean, this vulnerability, yet this desire to prove himself. It’s just been great to watch it come to life.”
BOSTON BLUE was just renewed for Season 2, which means fans will get to see more of the father-son duo in action.
Terraciano couldn’t be more grateful for his time as Sean on BLUE BLOODS and he’s more than excited for Amonsen to have a chance to shine in the role.
