How Candace Cameron Bure Became the Queen of Christmas Movies

Candace Cameron Bure, the undisputed Queen of Christmas Movies, is opening up about how she got her start in holiday projects, and why she keeps coming back to the genre.

“The movies feel like the comforts of home,” the actress told Parade. “People [are] going to fall in love. There’s a happy ending. You’re going to have all the feels in your heart. All the reasons why these movies get made fun of are the very reasons they’re so beloved.”

Bure first began starring in Christmas Movies in 2008 with MOONLIGHT & MISTLETOE and has since appeared in 15 holiday movies for networks like Hallmark and Great American Family.

“I’m proud to be one of the OGs!” Bure laughed. “It was a niche at the Hallmark Channel at the time. I had to audition for my first one [MOONLIGHT & MISTLETOE], so I sent in a videotape and Hallmark was like, ‘Let’s try it.’”

She continued, “It was actually my first movie after taking a 10-year break, because I decided to stay home and raise my kids. But if you would have asked me about this many years ago, I would not have thought I would become synonymous with Christmas Movies — or that the genre would be as big as it is today.”

This holiday season, Bure is starring in A CHRISTMAS LESS TRAVELED and HOME SWEET CHRISTMAS for GAF.

“A CHRISTMAS LESS TRAVELED gently challenges us to truly embrace every moment we share with our families, friends and loved ones,” Bure said in a statement about the movie. “It reminds us that forgiving ourselves and others is the pathway to set ourselves free.”

“We’ve been waiting 15 years to do a Christmas movie together and it’s finally happening!!!” the FULL HOUSE actress posted on Instagram. “We can’t wait for you to enjoy this movie alongside your family.”

Both movies are part of GAF’s holiday programming schedule, which includes tons of holiday fun from familiar stars.
