How Hollywood Rejects God’s Plan for Marriage

Model Emily Ratajkowski’s recent celebration of divorce highlights the immense divide between Hollywood’s view of marriage versus God’s design.

Ratajkowski captioned her TikTok video, saying, “Personally I find it so chic to be divorced by the age of 30.”

“So, it seems that a lot of young ladies are getting divorced before they turn 30,” she said in the video.

“There is nothing better than being in your 30s, still being hot… figuring out what you want to do with your life… having tried that married fantasy and realizing that it’s maybe not all it’s cracked up to be and then you have your whole life still ahead of you,” the model continued.

Unfortunately, Ratajkowski’s view of marriage and divorce is common in the United States.

“According to the American Psychological Association, approximately 40-50% of first marriages end in divorce. The divorce rate for second marriages is even higher, with approximately 60-67% of second marriages ending in divorce,” Petrelli Previtera, a law firm, reported.

As divorce rates skyrocket and separation is celebrated, the phenomenon represents another way culture has deviated from God’s design for marriage and divorce.

God outlines his plan for marriage in Genesis 2:24: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

This verse reveals that the oneness created in marriage cannot, and should not, be broken.

In Ephesians 5:22-23, the apostle Paul provides instructions for husbands and wives. He highlights the ideas of mutual submission and sacrificial love within the marital relationship, with husbands loving their wives as Christ loved the church and wives submitting to their husbands.

The Bible even speaks about divorce, describing the damage it can cause.

In Matthew 19:3-9, some Pharisees questioned Jesus about divorce, referencing the Mosaic law’s provision for divorce.

Jesus responded by emphasizing the original intention of marriage from Genesis and stating, “Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

He added that the Mosaic law permitted divorce due to the hardness of people’s hearts, but it was not God’s original design. Jesus then says, “I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

Malachi 2:16 reads, “‘For I hate divorce!’ says the Lord, the God of Israel. ‘To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,’ says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. ‘So, guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.’”

This verse underscores the seriousness of divorce and the importance of treating one’s spouse with love and faithfulness.

While Hollywood often celebrates unfaithfulness, God’s perfect design for marriage reveals his goodness and love.
