INSIDE OUT 2 Breaks Into Top 10 Animated Movies of All Time
By Movieguide® Contributor
INSIDE OUT 2 just hit some major box office milestones, scoring a Top 10 spot on the all-time animated movies list as it hit the $800 million mark.
The movie took home $799.7 million at the global box office, making it the No. 10 animated movie of all time, passing MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU, FINDING NEMO and SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE.
“Worldwide, it’s a matter of when, not if, INSIDE OUT 2 passes the $1B mark,” Deadline reported. “The Kelsey Mann-directed juggernaut already is well on its way to surpassing the first INSIDE OUT’s $859M global.”
INSIDE OUT 2 has already set some major records — the movie took home $100 million in its second weekend, setting a new record for an animated movie. It’s also already become 2024’s highest-grossing movie to date.
“Now, INSIDE OUT 2, which dipped a mere 35% from its $154 million domestic debut, is poised to challenge THE INCREDIBLES 2 ($1.2 billion) for the all-time top grossing Pixar release,” NPR reported.
Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:
INSIDE OUT 2 is a marvelous, family-friendly animated movie. The movie is delightful, funny, inventive, and heartwarming. It has many positive messages. For example, it promotes doing the right thing, controlling your emotions and not letting anxieties overcome your decision making. INSIDE OUT 2 also promotes kindness, friendship, repentance, and forgiveness. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children for scenes of peril and a large scary-looking but nonthreatening character. Unlike other recent animated movies, INSIDE OUT 2 doesn’t have any woke or politically correct content.
INSIDE OUT 2’s success is proof that CEO Bob Iger’s strategy to put good stories over messages is working.
“Creators lost sight of what their No. 1 objective needed to be,” Iger said in 2023, shortly after he rejoined the company as CEO. “We have to entertain first. It’s not about messages.”
Movieguide® previously reported on INSIDE OUT 2’s massive box office success:
INSIDE OUT 2 has given hope to the Hollywood box office curse…
“A lot of people have ingrained knowledge of the 2015 INSIDE OUT, so for us, it was much more about finding the thing that was new and relatable to as many people as possible across as many demographics as possible,” Morris told The Hollywood Reporter. “Everybody has turned 13, or will, and you’re going to be flooded with a whole new set of emotions.”
Movieguide® knows the reason for INSIDE OUT 2’s success is due to Pixar backing away from putting immoral content in the movies and instead focusing on family values.
