Kirk Cameron dives into Psalm 73 on his podcast to reminds his listeners that “grief is good when it mourns what God hates.”
After Cameron read Psalm 73: 2-22, he said, “Asaph [writer of this Psalm] is grieving. I mean, he’s all worked up and all torn up for sure, but it’s the wrong kind of grief. It’s the wrong kind of mourning. It’s an angry, harsh, accusatory grief that has no place in the life of a believer.
“Now, I’ve been there,” the actor continued. “I’m guilty. I’ve said words just like that. I felt just like that. And the truth is, there [are] reasons for us to grieve. We should grieve over our own sin. We should grieve over the broken, fallen, corrupt world that we live in. God grieves over those things.”
“We live in a world full of pain, pollution, corruption, injustice, poverty and disease,” he added. “Those things we should grieve and mourn over. But we have to be very careful. We’ve got to guard our grief and monitor our mourning because grief is never neutral. We’re either grieving with God over the things that break God’s heart and that He hates, or we’re grieving against God, questioning His goodness and His love.”
While there is much to grieve with God about in this world, we can also fight for God’s truth to prevail. Cameron leads this battle through his annual “See You at the Library Day,” which will take place on Aug. 16 this year.
“This is an opportunity for YOU to join the fight! This is your chance to stand up, speak out, and take part in a nationwide movement to revive our culture, reawaken the heart of our nation, and strengthen the conviction of the next generation,” he wrote in a post on social media.
See You at the Library began in 2023 when over 50 libraries denied Cameron the opportunity to read his faith-based book, As You Grow. Following backlash, the libraries conceded, but Cameron’s events often faced protesters and pushback from library staff.
He also inspires families through his new children’s TV series, IGGY AND MR. KIRK, which just wrapped up filming Season 1.
“Laugh, learn, sing, and play along with Iggy the Iguana in IGGY AND MR. KIRK. Watch as Iggy discovers the importance of honesty, forgiveness, bravery, and more! Iggy may not have it all figured out, but thanks to Mr. Kirk, Iggy’s friends, and some great Freedom Island stories, he’ll grow a little more each day,” a synopsis of the show reads.

All episodes of IGGY AND MR. KIRK can be streamed on Great American Pure Flix.
While we can mourn the darkness that plagues this world with God, we can also follow Cameron’s example and channel that grief into ventures that will promote His kingdom here on earth.
