Kelsey Grammer Remembers Late Sister in New Memoir: ‘Love Is Forever’

While Kelsey Grammer is known for his witty and comedic TV roles, an unthinkable tragedy rocked his family when he was younger.

When he was 20 years old, his 18-year-old sister Karen was brutally abducted, abused and murdered. She was at her place of work at Red Lobster when the horrific event occurred.

Now many years later, the FRAISER actor is releasing a book in honor of her life.

“Karen is a vibrant, visceral, saturated, honest, ecstatic recounting of my sister’s days until her final desecration. It is not a Grief book. It is a Life book, a celebration of Karen’s life,” he told PEOPLE of the memoir titled “Karen.”

He continued, “I wanted to tell Karen’s story and at the same time include a bit about my life, our life together and the love we shared. It is an unflinching account, raw and punctuated with horror. The words spilled from my mind to my fingers, and into the pages of this book. It poured from days long past, fresh and alive. Fifty years hence, I learned that love, that our love, is forever.”

Grammer hopes that his book will bring comfort to others who have also faced horrific tragedies and loss.

“It also brought me great joy. To see her smile again, that was really something. And in hopes it might bring solace to those who have suffered like horrors, that’s in there, too. From a loving brother, I invite you to meet Karen. To know her and remember her with me. Karen.”

Business Wire reported that “Karen: A Brother Remembers” will release May 6, 2025.

“Unlike a traditional memoir, ‘Karen’ showcases Grammer’s thoughts and reflections with stream-of-conscious-style prose, acting as a guide through his own memories and grief,” the outlet wrote.

The actor previously shared that tragedies like this caused him to turn his back on God until he realized God isn’t to blame.

“I would walk kind of hand in hand with the idea of God’s Word, and God, and Jesus, and stuff like that,” Grammer told Kelly Clarkson of his childhood faith. “And then, of course, I had some very difficult things happened in my life. And I went through the classic—I cursed God and said, ‘No, thanks. I don’t need your help. I’d rather just handle this alone if this is the way it’s going to be.’”

But that mindset didn’t last.

“And eventually, I just kind of got back on track and met, re-met Jesus, I guess you could say, and I carry Him with me, and it’s been a great thing,’” Grammer explained.
