Lauren Daigle Sings ‘Deeply Soulful’ Anthem for Upcoming BONHOEFFER Movie
By Movieguide® Contributor
Christian artist Lauren Daigle’s latest track, “Then I Will,” is about sacrificing all for Jesus, and it will appear during the end credits of Angel Studios’ BONHOEFFER: PASTOR. SPY. ASSASSIN.
“Lauren Daigle crafted an everlasting anthemic ballad for Bonhoeffer with ‘Then I Will’ and Angel Studios is so honored to have her artistry and talents as part of the film’s message,” Ryan Svendsen, Angel Studios Head of Music, wrote.
BONHOEFFER’s writer and director Todd Komarnicki also praised the singer’s addition to the new movie.
“Lauren Daigle can break and heal a heart with a single note,” Komarnicki said. “I am over every moon about this deeply soulful song.”
Daigle was already familiar with the story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German pastor and anti-Nazi dissident, after reading his biography at the urging of her grandfather and was excited to be part of the project.
“When I was approached about joining the project, I immediately said ‘Yes!’ she said. “Bonhoeffer had unwavering faith, and his commitment to stand up for the vulnerable and speak truth in the face of evil is a challenge to everyone. Are we willing to die for our neighbor?”
Along with a snippet of her song posted on her social media, she captioned, “When I read the book Bonhoeffer, I never expected to one day to write an original song for a film about his life.”
Part of the lyrics of “Then I Will” read:
What we have here
Within our hearts
So much stronger than the dark
Why would we fear
When the light
Is so much greater than the night
If it’s for me to die for love, then I will
Then I will
If we just speak
Will we be heard?
Or is there silence
To our words?
If mercy moves
If mercy moves
Why would we wait
Until the time comes
And it’s too late
If it’s for me to die for love
Then I will
Oh yes I will
Lord knows I will
“This story is about one man’s stance against evil itself,” Komarnicki told the Christian Post.
“He wasn’t fearless; he had doubts, questions, and fears like anyone else. But he was driven to act because he saw the church’s moral duty to stand against the othering and oppression of others,” he added.
Angel Studio’s upcoming movie’s synopsis reads:
As the world teeters on the brink of annihilation, Dietrich Bonhoeffer is swept into the epicenter of a deadly plot to assassinate Hitler. With his faith and fate at stake, Bonhoeffer must choose between upholding his moral convictions or risking it all to save millions of Jews from genocide. Will his shift from preaching peace to plotting murder alter the course of history or cost him everything?
BONHOEFFER: PASTOR. SPY. ASSASSIN will hit theatres on Nov. 22, 2024.
