Lori Loughlin Declares ‘God Does Have a Plan’ at Movieguide® Awards

By Movieguide® Contributor

Lori Loughlin thanked God for the opportunity to act again at this year’s Movieguide® Awards.

Following her involvement in a college admissions scandal, the actress’ future in the industry was uncertain.

Movieguide® reported:

Hallmark quickly cut ties with Loughlin in 2019 after she was arrested for participating in Operation Varsity Blues, “a criminal conspiracy aimed at getting students undergraduate admissions into elite universities in the U.S.,” SOAPS reported.

In a virtual sentencing hearing in August 2020, Loughlin took full responsibility for her actions.

“I went along with a plan to give my daughters an unfair advantage in the college admissions process,” Loughlin stated. “In doing so I ignored my intuition and allowed myself to be swayed from my moral compass. I thought I was acting out of love for my children. But in reality, it only undermined and diminished my daughters’ abilities and accomplishments.

“While I wish I could go back and do things differently, I can only take responsibility and move forward,” she added. “I am truly, profoundly and deeply sorry. I’m ready to face the consequences and make amends.”

Loughlin’s second chance came when she starred in Great American Family’s 2023 Christmas movie, A CHRISTMAS BLESSING.

For her role, she won Movieguide®’s Grace Prize® for TV Performance, an award that challenges actors and actresses to “bring an intimacy to the role demanded by all the different devices and screen sizes.”

“God does have a plan,” she said during her acceptance speech, “because this was not my vision. I didn’t ever see this happening.”

“I just want to say thank you to Ted and to everyone at Movieguide®,” she continued. “To my family at Great American Family. I also want to thank my friend, Brad Bessie who’s with me tonight and all my friends at Project Angel Food because A CHRISTMAS BLESSING was inspired by all he great incredible work that is done over at Project Angel Food.”

Loughlin concluded her speech by thanking her family, especially her mom. She said, “I’m really blessed to do what I love, so thank you all. God is good.”

A CHRISTMAS BLESSING follows “renowned TV star Mandy Gilmore (Loughlin) [who] says goodbye to her hit culinary series, A World of Food, with plans to travel the globe dining in all 142 Michelin star restaurants. Before jetting to Paris, Mandy stops in Milwaukee with the deed to her deceased aunt’s food pantry, Angel’s Fare, recently purchased by adjacent business owner, Adam Carraway (Tupper). A simple transaction. Until pantry volunteer, Otto Nessen (Hutch) reminds all that Aunt Susie’s love of cooking was truly love of feeding and inspires one more holiday feast for those who need it most. Haul out the holly! For we need a little Christmas now.”

Movieguide® praised its “very strong Christian, biblical, moral worldview promoting Jesus.” Part of the review reads:

A CHRISTMAS BLESSING tells a delightful, winsome, well-acted story about the meaning of Christmas. It has a strong Christian worldview stressing prayer, salvation and giving, including making a reference to the word of Jesus in Acts. 20:35, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” The exact lyrics of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman” about the salvation Jesus brings are heard at least twice. Also, a food bank volunteer uses Chapter Three of Ecclesiastes to help the movie’s romantic lead express his feelings to Mandy.
