Luke Bryan Says Sons Don’t Care About Fame: ‘To Them, I’m Just Dad’

Country singer Luke Bryan says his sons are unimpressed by his superstar status.

“To them, I’m just Dad,” he told People. “I never will forget for Father’s Day, my 15-year-old, he goes, ‘Happy Father’s Day, Dad, to the guy that has more fun than anybody.’ I loved that quote.”

Bryan shares sons Bo, 15, and Tate, 13, with his wife Caroline.

The singer did say that the boys are starting to get a little more interested in his career.

“I mean, they totally understand it now when they start Googling Dad’s accomplishments and reading all the chatter about what the net worth of all this is, and you have to sit down and really clarify a lot of stuff with them,” Bryan said. “Tate understands that Dad could probably make a call to a rollercoaster park and get some fast passes to get on the rollercoaster, but we send them on trips that they have to wait in line — it’s just balancing.”

He continued, “They don’t know any different. When I get home, they don’t care. They don’t care if I’ve sold out 10 shows or whatever. They just want to go hang with Dad and do boy and father-son dad stuff. And it’s special when we can all do it together.”

In a recent Instagram post, Bryan expressed gratitude for his family, writing, “Last couple shows have not been easy to get through but I gave it my all. Thankfully my friends and family were there to support. Thank you fans for showing up in a big way.”

The singer was forced to cancel a series of recent shows due to illness.

Bryan told fans in a statement, “Under doctor advisement after taking 6 days off to heal I attempted to sing at both shows Thursday and Saturday and it was a struggle. Every show I sing I’m setting my voice back.  I will continue to do everything I can to get better. Please know how much you mean to me and how heartbreaking this is to do.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the cancellations:

Bryan had struggled with a “head cold” and canceled shows in Washington, Utah and Idaho. The country star was also scheduled to perform at the Waterline Festival in George, Washington, but was unable to due to illness.

“This is such a frustrating weekend. ‘Shedders, I am sorry to let you down, but I am not back singing – can hardly even talk still,” Bryan wrote on his Instagram story.

“This festival is one of the most beautiful places we perform and one of the most fun crowds always,” he added. “I know my friends on the show will bring a great time for you! Show them all what you got. Love ya – Luke.”

In another statement to his fans in Boise, Idaho, Bryan wrote, “Dear Boise fans – this is so hard for me to do but I am going to have to cancel my show on August 5th at Ford Center. Under the advisement of doctors, I need another day to rest my voice and get better.”

“There is nothing that I love more than to play live shows and I am so disappointed to not be able to do this for you,” he added.
