Madison Prewett Troutt may be known for her role on THE BACHELOR, but she desires something deeper: to follow the convictions that God has given her.

“I look back to who I was four or five years ago, and I don’t even recognize her,” she told Relevant Magazine in a recent interview, reflecting on her spiritual transformation. “Every day when you journey with the Holy Spirit is an opportunity to see how much you need Him.”

Troutt credits her church community in Waco, Texas, for her growth, which she is a part of with her husband.

“Those people had full access to our life,” she said. “They had permission to call us higher.”

Troutt realizes that having people who refine you and call you higher is a biblical concept, one that she doesn’t take lightly.

“It talks about in First Peter that if your gift is to teach, then do so as one who speaks the very words of God,” she said. “I want that to be true whether I’m on a stage or talking with a friend.”

The scripture she is referring to is 1 Peter 4:10-11, which says, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

In a recent post to Instagram, Troutt shared more about the importance of following the convictions God places on our hearts.

“We live in a world that tells us to ‘follow your heart,’ ‘chase what feels good,’ and ‘do whatever makes you happy.’ But here’s the thing. When we live for ourselves, we don’t actually end up free,” she explained. “We end up tired, striving, and still searching for something more. Because the truth is… living for self enslaves you.”

She added that “The more you try to fill your heart with your own desires, the more it starts to feel empty. But Jesus offers something more. He doesn’t say, ‘Follow yourself.’ He says, ‘Follow Me.’ Real freedom isn’t found in doing whatever we want. It’s found in surrendering everything to the One who made us. The One who knows what our hearts truly need. If you’ve been feeling the pull between what the world says and what God says, this is your reminder: only Truth sets you free.”

Like Troutt, we all should follow the convictions God places on our hearts.
