Fans of the ’90s show BLOSSOM almost got a reboot, but star Mayim Bialik revealed Disney shut it down.
“This is certainly an unusual and somewhat unceremonial way to share this news, but I have enjoyed sharing so many aspects of my life through writing on Substack and what I am about to talk about is a huge part of my life. It’s the reason I have not been in front of the camera in several years,” the former BLOSSOM star wrote on Substack.
The show followed Bialik’s Blossom Ruby Russo, “A teenage girl living in a house run by men [who] dreams what life would be like if she lived in a more conventional family.” It ran from 1991-1995.
Decades later, Bialik and series creator Don Reo began discussing a reboot after Bialik concluded her time on THE BIG BANG THEORY in 2019, according to The New York Post.

The actress revealed that Reo wrote a “beautiful” script; however, because Bialik was busy with CALL ME KAT and co-hosting JEOPARDY!, plans for the reboot were halted.
“When both of those ended, Don and I could not let the possibility of revisiting BLOSSOM go,” Bialik wrote.
The pair pitched the reboot to Disney, who “loved it” and “understood what we wanted to do.”
“We felt certain this was moving forward,” Bialik shared.
Unfortunately, due to internal changes at Disney, “the project was no longer able to be produced.”
“We asked for the rights so that we could let the market decide if audiences might want to see these characters all these years later. We were told Disney reserves the rights in case they ever want to do a reboot of BLOSSOM,” Bialik revealed. “The reboot we all wanted to do was now, with Don’s script. We will likely never know…why they would not let us bring these beautiful stories to people who love ’90s nostalgia and who have a special place in their hearts for BLOSSOM,”
Whether or not people actually wanted a BLOSSOM reboot, Bialik is positive “Disney got this one wrong.”
“The sun is gonna surely shine. Maybe not the way Don and I intended, but this door closed,” she assured. “While we didn’t want it to, we are powerless over every aspect of it except what we know to be true: we loved this possibility with all that we have and we are so, so sorry we couldn’t get it to happen.”
Bialik’s announcement is a sad turn of events for BLOSSOM fans.
