How the Miracles This Actor Witnessed as a Child Inspire His Faith Today

Mel Gibson discussed how his parents’ trust in God inspired his own faith and how that has turned into the anchor for his entire life.
“I got [my faith] from my parents. They believed, and I saw them live their lives in that way, and it worked for them to live their lives in that way — not that it was an easy life,” Gibson told Andrew Erwin’s “Storytellers” podcast. “We went through some good times and some hard times, and it was always done with an attitude of trust.”
“There’s a verse from Matthew about ‘Look at the birds of the air,’ and my dad was always like, ‘So don’t go around trying to get these things,’ he said, ‘You seek first the kingdom of God and you get all this other stuff besides,’” Gibson continued. “And that worked for them because somehow, we didn’t even know how we were going to eat for weeks, but God took care of it…I saw so many miracles growing up.”
“At the end of the day, I think there’s a very core belief that I cling to…You have to cling to something or you’re groundless. You have to cling to something higher because left to my own devices, I will devolve into chaos that I won’t be extracted from,” Gibson added.
As he has gotten older, Gibson’s faith has only become stronger having done the research to see that Jesus was a historical figure with a record of Him outside of the Bible. For this reason, he boldly declares his faith sharing the history-altering impact of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

“A lot of people think [the resurrection] is a fairytale or ‘Did that really happen?’” Gibson said. “Yes, it did. You know, it’s backed up by historical veracity and not just by the Gospels but other accounts. I mean there’s Roman soldiers writing back to Tiberia. So if we’re people of faith, we have to understand what that meant.”
The resurrection will be the focus of Gibson’s PASSION OF THE CHRIST sequel, which he hopes to start shooting in 2026.
“I don’t have a start date, I just have to begin pre-production and see what happens, and it’s just gonna roll in its own time,” he said. “It’s taking its own time. I thought it was late. I thought I was taking too long, but it’s probably just right. It’s when it’s supposed to be.”
Last week, he was tapped by President Trump to serve as a special ambassador to Hollywood.
“It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone, to be Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California,” the President posted on Truth Social last week. “They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!”
The actor revealed he wasn’t aware of the position until Trump announced it, but he’s ready to take it on.
“I got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised,” Gibson said. “Nevertheless, I heed the call. My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can.”
