MIGHTY DUCKS Actor Shaun Weiss Celebrates Three Years of Sobriety

By Movieguide® Contributor

JESUS REVOLUTION actor and former Disney star Shaun Weiss recently celebrated three years of sobriety over a methamphetamine addiction.

Weiss posted a celebratory photo on Instagram, thanking everyone for their support. The caption reads, “3 Yrs ago, today, I was in jail. I asked the deputy if he would ‘please shoot me.’ He urged me to ‘stay positive Goldberg.’ Thanks, you guys for holding me down. Is that still a saying??”

Weiss was arrested three years ago after breaking into a Christian man’s home.

Movieguide® reported:

“He just took this hammer and knocked the window out,” homeowner Lou Binninger said.

“My just split-second decision is, do I take it? Do I do it? Because I got a gun, but I didn’t feel threatened,” Benninger said.

Instead, Binninger had compassion on the former Disney child actor, Shaun Weiss, who was under the influence of methamphetamines at the time.

“I felt at peace,” Binninger said. “I call it a ‘God incident.’ It was a divine fit. He needed help, and I can help him.”

Binninger opted to call the police. Weiss was arrested and charged with residential burglary and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Weiss later entered rehab and got clean.

After five years without a role, Weiss returned to acting last year playing a minor part in the JESUS REVOLUTION. Weiss was also baptized while on the set of JESUS REVOLUTION by the real Greg Laurie.

Movieguide® previously reported:

THE MIGHTY DUCKS star Shaun Weiss will make his first on-screen appearance in years in Greg Laurie’s upcoming faith-based movie, JESUS REVOLUTION.

Weiss is candid about his past battles with drug addiction and agreed to play the role of a drug-addicted Vietnam vet who seeks to be saved. In the movie, the character eventually gets baptized.

While filming a baptism scene for the movie, Weiss said that Laurie approached him “and decided to start a relationship with me.”

“I ended up getting baptized … in front of the whole movie production. It was a very nice process, it was really wonderful,” he shared. “It really wasn’t anything I had been planning on or had thought about, but it made sense the whole time.”

This is an impressive comeback for Weiss, who served jail time in 2017 for petty theft and 2018 for public intoxication.
