NCIS: ORIGINS Scoops Up Full-Season Order
By Movieguide® Contributor
CBS rookie show NCIS: ORIGINS just secured a full-season order.
“NCIS: ORIGINS is currently averaging 6.2 million total viewers (with Live+7 playback), ranking No. 3 among all freshmen shows (behind MATLOCK and GEORGIE & MANDY’S FIRST MARRIAGE),” TV Insider reported.
“NCIS: ORIGINS has added a brilliant new dimension to the NCIS franchise with an origin story of Leroy Jethro Gibbs and a cinematic ’90s experience that features distinct characters, stories and crime solving,” CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach said of the show’s success.
The show stars Austin Stowell as a young Gibbs, and Mark Harmon narrates. It “follows his early days in the organization following the tragic murder of his wife and daughter,” The Wrap said.
According to Parade, the day before the news came out about NCIS: ORIGINS being picked up for a full season, Mark Harmon, its narrator and producer, told the outlet he hoped the series would be picked up.

“People are real good at thinking that the mothership, NCIS, that from the moment it opened, it was a hit and it wasn’t at all for four years,” Harmon explained. “Maybe that’s the perspective of a convenient memory where people go, ‘Oh, yeah! It wasn’t so bad. People have jobs.’ That’s been the fun in doing ORIGINS for me is getting to re-introduce that but in a different way. It’s all these people together, including the crew, and you’re not in Atlanta, you’re not in Canada, you’re here in L.A. They are all at home and they’re getting a chance to work and do a job from L.A., which is unheard of right now.”
With five new episodes, NCIS: ORIGINS will now have a total of 18 episodes to round out its first season.
Tune in tonight for a brand new episode of NCIS: ORIGINS at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
