Oklahoma Softball Star Alyssa Brito Declares ‘My Identity is in Christ’ Amid WCWS
By Movieguide® Contributor
The Oklahoma Sooners took the world by surprise at last year’s softball Women’s College World Series. The team is in the same position this year, thanks to their bold faith and talent on the field.
Third baseman Alyssa Brito, who was part of the championship team the year prior, “is hitting .406 with 18 home runs and 59 RBIs while leading the team in hits (71), OPS (1.324) and slugging percentage (.834). She went 3-for-3 with two home runs and a double in the first of Oklahoma’s two wins over Florida State in the Super Regionals,” Sports Spectrum reported.
Through her time at OU, Brito explained to Sports Spectrum in 2023, her “trust in God has grown so much more, and I feel like that’s shaped me as a person more now, knowing that I can just be who I am on the field and off the field.”
“I just feel like getting the opportunity to be different and bring attention to the Kingdom and have conversations about Christ, I think that’s definitely made me feel more confident in my faith,” she added.

More importantly, Brito has been a shining light for Jesus for those around her.
In March, she helped one of her teammates be baptized.
“God, Your timing is good. You have a beautiful and perfect way of writing Your story,” Brito wrote in a post about the baptism. “Thank you for a gentle reminder today, that we rejoice and we PRAISE You, not this world.”
“What is seen as loss in this world God, You ground us in Your truth. Truth that You already won. victory is WON,” she continued. “Won when You sent Your Son to die for us on the Cross. Paying the ultimate debt and sacrifice for us. Breaking the barrier of sin between Your children and You, Father.”
“We don’t deserve this borrowed breath God, yet today and everyday we thank You for waking us up and filling us with a purpose for Your Kingdom,” the post concluded. “Today there’s a party in Heaven!!!!!”
She often posts about her faith, encouraging her fans to seek a relationship with Christ.
“My identity is in Christ,” she said. “His love is greater than any stats, results, or failures.”
Movieguide® reported on the Sooners’ success last year:
The Oklahoma softball team won their third consecutive national title last week, defeating Florida St. 3-1. The reason behind their success? The joy of the Lord.
In a post-game press-conference an ESPN reporter asked how the team handled the pressure and kept their joy, team captain Grace Lyons answered, “The only way that you can have a joy that doesn’t fade away is from the Lord. Any other type of joy is actually happiness that comes from circumstances and outcomes.”
“Joy from the Lord is really the only thing that can keep you motivated [and] in a good mindset, no matter the outcomes,” she added.
