Roma Downey asked for prayers for her community as the Palisade Fire continues to burn, destroying hundreds of homes and millions of dollars’ worth of property.

“So much loss and heartbreak and devastation and it’s not even over yet. My family have evacuated and thank God we are now safe but so many people have lost so much and many more [are] still at risk,” Downey posted on Instagram. “Asking for your prayers that these fierce windstorms will subside. This has been a very grim, scary day for our community. Praying for all impacted and for our brave firefighters and first responders that they [will] be protected and kept safe.”

Downey is one of countless celebrities asking for thoughts and prayers as this historic fire burns. Actors like Candace Cameron Bure, Chris Pratt, Cameron Mathison, Mario Lopez, Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore, Tauren Wells and many others have shared their lament as their homes and communities get wiped out.

As the spots they love go up in flames, some actors share the memories of these places and the special moments they hold in their hearts. Jamie Lee Curtis, for example, shared that the church she got sober in has been burnt to ash.

“This is the church in the Palisades that had a beautiful Sunday school and school and was a gorgeous house of worship and is the building that I got sober in 25 years ago,” Curtis wrote along with a picture of the burned church.

“I think of all the souls who came there for comfort and solace and all the baptisms and funerals and weddings and the thousands of people who reclaimed their lives through sobriety,” she continued. “Also, the women’s club in the Palisades where I met many sober people. Both are gone. Tough times. We will persevere. God bless you all.”

The fire has burned or threatened 45 square miles, causing 179,000 people to evacuate their homes. The blaze is being fueled by the Santa Ana winds which are sweeping through some areas close to 100 mph. While firefighters from around the country have offered their expertise, the fire remains uncontrolled and is already set to be one of the most costly natural disasters in recent history.
