The No. 1 golf professional in the world, Scottie Scheffler, has a secret weapon — his wife Meredith, who he calls his “best friend” and “biggest supporter.”

He got candid about his wife during an interview with CBS Sports’ Amanda Balionis after his latest PGA win.

“You know, watching you, Meredith and [their son] Bennett, it makes me think of Barbara Nicklaus all week this week and how she made so much of Jack’s career possible with her support,” Balionis said. “Talk about what this balance looks and the support Meredith provides that allows you to be the best father, husband you can be while also being the No. 1 player in the world.”

“You’re really trying to make me emotional now,” Scheffler began.

“I mean, my wife is my biggest supporter, she’s my best friend,” the golf champion continued as he fought back tears. “You know, this is our life, out here on the road. It’s been a lot of fun. We’ve had some special memories at this tournament, and yeah, I definitely couldn’t do it without her.”

Scheffler won the Jack Nicklaus Memorial Tournament on Sunday after he “cruised to a four-stroke victory at Memorial, winning the tournament for a consecutive year,” according to PEOPLE.

Jack Nicklaus took to social media to express what it meant to him watching Scheffler win the tournament for the second year in a row.

“The 50th playing of @memorialgolf provided 4 seasons over 4 rounds, but the one constant was the play of @scottie.scheffler! Just as he has done the last few years on the @pgatour, including winning the 2024 Memorial, Scottie simply does what he has to do — and very well — to win,” Nicklaus wrote. “Scottie, I’m proud of you. The entire golf world is proud of you! You not only continue to display the golf game of a great champion, but the way you handle yourself is also that of a champion!”

Scheffler took to Instagram and shared a video of his time on the course over the weekend.

“It’s always special to play this tournament. What an honor it was to shake Mr. Nicklaus’ hand,” he wrote in the caption.

Many of Scheffler’s followers celebrated his win in the comment section.

“This man deserves everything coming his way🔥 congrats brotha,” one person wrote.

“Absolute legend on and off the course,” another fan commented.

While Scheffler’s at the top of his game, he knows that without his wife’s support and God’s blessing, none of his accomplishments would be possible.
