Tim Tebow shared his thoughts about how Christians should approach prayers where they ask for God in success in any area of life.

“I wouldn’t discourage it because I really believe that God doesn’t want us to have rehearsed prayers. Now there can be really good prayers. But I feel that God wants our heart. And I do think it’s okay to say to God, ‘God, I really want to win this game. I really want to do this. I really want…’ But then I think, it’s even more important to say ‘But if it doesn’t happen, I still wanna trust you more,’” Tebow said

“‘And I don’t wanna put my faith in this game or in this thing or this corner office or this job or this podcast or whatever. I wanna put it in You'” he continued. “And so, I don’t discourage people from sharing their heart. I actually believe that we look at scripture and you look at the life of David, and man, he just poured out his heart over and over and over to God in praise and fear and doubt and unknown and in so many ways, but then you look at how he’d sum it up too, and he would go back to, ‘but I’m still gonna trust you.”

We see examples of Jesus doing this in the Bible as well, where He shared his heart with the Lord but made it clear that His will would be done.

“Going a little farther, [Jesus] fell with his face to the ground a prayer, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will,’” Jesus says in Matthew 26:39, praying for the burden of the crucifixion to pass from Him.

More than anything, the Lord wants us to be honest with Him and share everything that is important to us. At the same time, Christians are ultimately called to trust God with everything in their lives and believe that He uses all things for our good.

“I think when we think about prayer it’s not just that we pray for things because we hope that God answers our prayers,” Tebow previously explained. “I think we should pray and ask God for things that are on our heart because I think God wants us to be open and share with Him our hearts and our hearts desire. But that’s still not the reason that we should pray. Why we should pray is because when we pray we get to be connected to the source of life.”

“I think it’s important that we share our heart to our Creator, and we get to, and I believe he wants us to,” Tebow added. “But the impact is not if God answers that prayer. The impact is that we get to be connected to Him. And you can’t be connected to Him and not.”

Thus, it is not wrong for Christians to pray for their success or ask for God’s favor, but ultimately, we need to understand and believe that whatever happens is God’s will and it is for the best for us.
