Ted McGinley Says ‘There’s Nothing Like’ THE BAXTERS: ‘Beautiful To Watch’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Actor Ted McGinley says there’s “nothing like” THE BAXTERS on TV today.

“I wanted to be a part of THE BAXTERS,” McGinley said in an interview with Patheos, explaining that he was drawn to the character John Baxter—a “foundational rock, they can’t do the show without him, which is fun as an actor.”

He also remarked on the quality of the show and the themes it tackles, saying, “There’s nothing like it.”

“There’s someone cheating, you’re sitting, you’re watching, it’s hard to watch,” McGinley said. “But it shows you how to get through it and get to the other side.”

He continued, “It’s beautiful to watch. It’s not going to be for everybody, probably, but there will be an audience that’s thirsty for something like this, and they will see themselves in it.”

THE BAXTERS is based on the popular books by Karen Kingsbury and was brought to the screen through Roma Downey’s production company, LightWorkers Media. Downey also stars in THE BAXTERS.

“After I completed that first book, I just felt compelled to reach out to Karen Kingsbury personally and asked her if I could option the rights to make it into a TV show,” Downey told ChurchPOP.

She added, “[The Baxters are] a family that reflects our values. We rarely get to see that on television. I don’t know that there is a church-going, praying, biblical-based show that exists on TV. I think people that have faith will [find it] very meaningful to see a family like this.”

In addition to Downey and McGinley, there are some other familiar faces in the cast—Kathie Lee Gifford and her daughter Cassidy.

“I wanted to be part of this project because people are very hungry for something good right now,” Cassidy told CBN News. “You know, it’s so important to come home to something and then come home to God…I hope that it just blesses people and meets them wherever they are.”

Kathie Lee echoed her daughter’s comments, saying, “I agree with Cassidy. I just hope that it can inspire them to get closer to God.”

THE BAXTERS is now available to watch on Amazon Prime. A portion of the Movieguide® review for the first season reads:

THE BAXTERS is an entertaining series about a loving family going through multiple issues. The program is very well produced. Each episode presents a new issue and a way to biblically work through it. Viewers will be interested and entertained by each storyline and how they develops. The first eight episodes of THE BAXTERS have a strong Christian, moral worldview with prayer, Scripture and examples of faith. However, the episodes deal with serious issues, so it’s designed for mature viewers. For example, THE BAXTERS talks about an illicit affair but shows a positive example of a Christian fighting for her marriage.
