THE CHOSEN Partners with Lionsgate for Worldwide Distribution of Hit Series

By Movieguide® Contributor

THE CHOSEN creators recently partnered with Lionsgate and granted sub-licensing rights for the distribution of THE CHOSEN series on a global level.

Dallas Jenkins, the series writer, producer, and director told CBN’s Faithwire, “Lionsgate is perfect for us,”

He added, “They’re strong and experienced in the areas we’re not, but they also understand what’s unique about us and will protect that. We’ll continue to do what we do best unabated, and they’ll expand our efforts with their tremendous distribution team.”

President of worldwide television distribution for Lionsgate, Jim Packer stated, “no surprise that an artfully crafted story about such an important historical figure, unlike anything done before, would be in great demand.”

Packer added, “The multi-season approach has allowed ‘The Chosen’ to consistently build its audience and generate a unique level of engagement. We’re excited by the opportunity to elevate this incredible property to the next level of worldwide recognition and popularity.”

Since the beginning of THE CHOSEN, the series has been streamed more than 500 million times and has totaled a whopping $35 million in box office revenue.

Jenkins said to CBN’s Faithwire that God has been “very clear” that the success of the series is all from Him.

“God has just so clearly from the beginning brought people to the show — cast, crew — who were compelled to do it even when they might not have wanted to,” Jenkins explained. “There’s just so many people involved the show who God was putting it on their hearts.”

Movieguide® recently reported on THE CHOSEN:

THE CHOSEN recently announced that they would end Season 3 with another theatrical release.

The creators of the fully crowd-funded project said that the final two episodes of Season 3 were in such high demand that the Fathom Event would extend its dates in theaters, from Feb. 2 through Feb. 6.

The faith-based series began Season 3 with a successful theatrical launch, including its first two episodes and a message from creator Dallas Jenkins.

When THE CHOSEN first announced the Fathom Event, fans of the show crashed the site.

“[The episodes] are so big they demand to be on the big screen,” THE CHOSEN wrote on Facebook. “And apparently, you demand it, too, as the rush for tickets initially crashed the Fathom Events website.”

Jenkins added that their previous theatrical releases proved that fans wanted to watch THE CHOSEN in theaters.

“Because of the success of the Christmas special last year, theaters are saying, ‘We want The Chosen in our theater,’” Jenkins said. “…They’re saying, ‘Please release as many episodes as you can in theaters.’”

“The success of The Chosen Season 3: Episode 1 & 2 is the perfect example of how innovative the event cinema business has become and how hungry audiences are for faith-based content,” Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events, said. “Additionally, the robust partnership that we’ve developed with Angel Studios and The Chosen team really works – not only for Fathom Events and our exhibition partners but for fans everywhere, including several international territories who want to see this content on the big screen and as a community.”
