‘This is Christ-mas’: Tim Allen Says Christian Elements to Come in Future Episodes of THE SANTA CLAUSES

By Movieguide® Contributor

Tim Allen recently shared how he pushed for Christian themes in Disney+’s new series THE SANTA CLAUSES.

The new show follows Allen’s character, Scott Calvin, as he looks for a replacement for his job as Santa Claus.

While the show has some magic elements to it, Allen was quick to say that he fought against any overt references to “otherworldly” creatures.

“It originally had a lot of otherworldly characters, and ghosts, and goblins,” the actor said. “I said no, this is Christ-mas. It’s Christ-mas. It literally is a religious holiday.”

He continued, “We don’t have to blow trumpets, but I do want you to acknowledge it. That’s what this is about. If you want to get into Santa Claus, you’re gonna have to go back to history, and it’s all about religion.”

Allen also shared that the show’s writers found “a brilliant way” to incorporate religion into the show that will come in later episodes.

“It’s really wonderful. They took a chance, and we did it really well,” Allen said.

In the first two episodes, however, there is pagan content and no mention of Christ.

A portion of Movieguide®’s review of the first episode of THE SANTA CLAUSES reads:

THE SANTA CLAUSES: Chapter One begins with almost too much similarity and too many parallels to the previous movies. However, a modernized, time relevant aspect is added to every-thing, even the program’s view of Christmas. The nostalgia is heartwarming, luring in lovers of the previous movies. The first episode of THE SANTA CLAUSES promotes family and love, but it has an overarching pagan worldview suggesting there can be no Christmas without Santa. So, MOVIEGUIDE advises caution for older children.
