Tim Allen Reflects on Iconic Role in THE SANTA CLAUSES

By Movieguide® Staff

Actor Tim Allen, star of the original THE SANTA CLAUSE franchise, recently reflected on reprising his role as Scott Calvin in Disney’s new series, THE SANTA CLAUSES.

According to PEOPLE, the upcoming series is set 30 years after the original movie, which was released in 1994.

“To be on set again with so many of the original cast (more to come eventually) was like seeing family again,” Allen, 69, told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. “It’s almost as if time had stood still other than my age. I look younger now in the Santa makeup than I do out of it.”

Along with Elizabeth Mitchell returning as Carol and David Krumholtz as head elf Bernard, the series also stars Allen’s real-life daughter Elizabeth Allen-Dick.

“The advice I gave to my daughter Elizabeth is that the writers, producers and crew have the most important roles on a production,” he said. “Being an actor is a wonderful craft but we are just a part of a teamwork experience.”

In one scene from the first-look trailer, NFL legend Peyton Manning makes a cameo and interviews to become the new Santa.

“I am a huge football fan so the scenes with Manning were surreal,” The LAST MAN STANDING star said of Manning’s work on the series. “I was in full Santa gear and in character so Tim Allen never had the chance to be a fan. The dude is too tall and too funny!”

Allen added that the experience was “absolutely humbling” as fans welcomed him back to the role.

“Walking on set the first day it was wonderful to watch the faces of kids and adults wide-eyed and smiling. It reminds me how this movie magic works,” he said.

A portion of Movieguide®’s review of THE SANTA CLAUSE (1994) reads:

It’s late Christmas Eve and up on the roof there arose such a clatter that Scott Calvin and his son Charlie awake just in time to be swept up in a magical fantasy aboard Santa’s sleigh in THE SANTA CLAUSE. Tim Allen is a divorced dad trying to salvage his relationship with his young son when he experiences an abrupt career change involving a big red suit and weight gain. If you explain to your children the difference between fantasy and the Truth, then they can enjoy this truly delightful adventure fantasy which is definitely an uplifting experience.
