Tim Tebow Says ‘We Have To Do Everything We Can’ To Fight Human Trafficking
By Movieguide® Contributor
Former NFL star Tim Tebow is on a mission to save victims of human trafficking and combat “this horrible evil” through the Tim Tebow Foundation’s UnkNOWN and UnFINISHED campaign.
“King Jesus, who has infinite value and worth, went to the cross and was a ransom for me, and was a ransom for you, and it was a ransom for every single person — and gave his life in exchange for us,” he told Faithwire. “That means that we have infinite value and worth. He paid that price for us.”
Tebow explained that this sacrifice has created a responsibility for Christians to help and defend those in need.
“We have to do everything we can to protect them,” he said of victims. “To bring them out of this horrible evil and put them in a position where they can flourish, knowing their worth, and their value, and experiencing the faith, hope, and love that so many desperately deserve.”
He spoke in further detail about his fight to help those affected by human trafficking in an interview with CBN.
“We believe it’s one of the worst evils in the world,” Tebow recently told CBN News. “When you look at the world of trafficking and child exploitation, there’s so many people [whose] lives are at stake, and lives are on the line every single day.”
He explained that it’s “one of the worst evils in the world” and is “also one of the fastest-growing evils in the world,” adding that it’s impossible for him to ignore the victims’ plights.
“How could I live on my timeline knowing that [they have] to handle that one more day?” Tebow said. “As an image bearer of our creator, as someone that Jesus died for, for me to sit here and to be comfortable while she is so uncomfortable, it should make me agonized; it should put a burden on me.”
Part of Tebow’s work to combat human trafficking involves working with politicians and supporting legislation that will aid in his efforts. He recently called on Americans to call their congressional representatives and express their support for The Renewed Hope Act of 2024.
“So grateful to stand alongside bipartisan and bicameral effort today as we put aside policies and politics and make it about people!” he wrote. “Our fight is about every single one of those boys and girls who are needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need. The biblical form of Hope means to look forward with confidence, expectation, and anticipation.”
Tebow continued, “I believe the ‘Renewed Hope Act of 2024’ to combat child sexual exploitation is going to do just that: give hope to kids, to protect them, to love them, and to show them Faith, Hope and Love in their darkest hour of need.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Tebow’s support of The Renewed Hope Act:
Tim Tebow has been on the frontlines fighting child sex trafficking and abuse and knows that many children are abused at the hands of someone in their trusted circle — he’s joining forces with lawmakers to do something about it.
“What do you tell someone what love looks like when their dad was the first person to abuse them? There are a lot of boys and girls that are suffering at the hands of those that have been called with the responsibility to protect them,” Tebow said in an Instagram video. “Out of the majority of these studies it looks like around 80% of those that are abusing these boys and girls are doing it from their trusted circle. Mom, dad, coach, pastor, chaplain, teacher, babysitter, someone in their trusted circle is doing this.”
He continued, “That’s also why it’s so important because who do you go to? Who does a boy or girl go to if the person they’re supposed to trust is the person that’s abusing them? That’s also why there is such an urgency with this because they have no one to go to. No one to ask for help. Well guess what? Maybe we can give them someone that they can ask for help because maybe that person is going to show up on their front door.”
To do this, the former NFL star joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers earlier this week to unveil the Renewed Hope Act of 2024.
“The legislation would enhance the ability of U.S. Immigration and Customs and Enforcement and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to rescue exploitation victims and identify predators,” the Christian Post reported. “The measure aims to provide the agencies with the resources to hire and train personnel and equip them with advanced victim identification methods.”
“Their pain must stir us to act,” Tebow wrote. “This is why we’re calling on Congress to pass legislation to strengthen our nation’s response to identifying and rescuing these boys and girls.”
