TODAY Host Savannah Guthrie: My Faith Is What Makes Me Tick

By Movieguide® Contributor

TODAY anchor Savannah Guthrie has just released “Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere,” a book of personal essays about her Christian faith.

“[My faith is] what makes me tick,” she told TODAY.com. “It’s what makes me joyful. It’s what helps me navigate the world and stresses and disappointments and fears.”

As a child, Guthrie went to church “three times a week” with her family and quoted her sister as saying, “‘God was the sixth member of our family,’ in our family of five.”

Faith has remained a huge part of her life, and Guthrie is passionate about sharing God’s love with other people.

“I’ve been blessed and not because things worked out in my career, though thankfully they did. Or because I’m so blessed to have a family that I wanted for so long, and thankfully I do,” she told PEOPLE. “I’m blessed because God is present to me, and he loves me. And guess what? He loves you, too. And that’s the whole reason I wrote the book. That’s it. I had something good to share and I just had to share it.”

Guthrie stressed that she does not have all the answers, adding, “I’m not writing this book from some mountaintop where I’ve received some wisdom, and now I’m imparting it to the world. No, I’m still down here, struggling. Still down here, disappointing myself. I’m still down here, needing faith, needing grace, needing mercy, needing love. That’s why I wrote the book — because I’m the person that needs to read it. And so I thought, if I do, then maybe others do, too.”

The TODAY star told Axios that the book is “by far the most personal and vulnerable thing I’ve ever undertaken…But I just felt like I had something good to say about God and couldn’t help but share it.”

Guthrie also shared her hopes for what readers take away from “Mostly What God Does,” saying, “I hope the book is appealing and compelling to anyone in any walk of life, because it’s just a gentle call to be loved. And once you feel that love, well, you’ll find that you can’t help but share it. It’s just contagious. And I think that’s really the thrust of the book and really what I was trying to say.”

Movieguide® previously reported on “Mostly What God Does”:

THE TODAY SHOW host Savannah Guthrie announced that she has been working on a new faith-based book, “Mostly What God Does.”

“I’m so passionate about faith, how it can challenge us and inspire us, and it is at the heart of a new project that I am excited to reveal right now,” Guthrie said. “I’ve decided to share a book. It’s called ‘Mostly What God Does’ because mostly what God does is love you.”

“It’s just a bunch of reflections on faith and love and kindness and goodness,” she added. “It’s very personal, which is why I’m in tears about is, but also really overjoyed and delighted, but scared because it’s certainly the most personal and vulnerable thing I’ve ever done. But also a joy because I’m really passionate about this, and I hope it will be full of love and happiness for everyone.”
