Why 49ers Star’s Wife Prioritized Modesty on Her Wedding Day

By Movieguide® Contributor

San Fransisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey just married Olivia Culpo, and she decided that she didn’t want her dress to “exude sex.”

For the couple, their faith means everything to them, which is why Olivia “wanted something that felt as serious as that commitment.”

“I didn’t want it to exude sex in any way, shape, or form,” she told E! News. “I wanted it to feel effortless and as if it’s complimenting me, not overpowering me. There’s so much beauty and simplicity.”

Olivia wore a white “long-sleeve crepe crew neck ball gown that she paired with a 16-foot lace veil and little makeup.”

She even decided not to wear mascara.

“It’s the beginning of the rest of your life – and it’s the union and bond of two people forever,” Culpo said of marriage, calling it a “covenant.”

Culpo’s decision to direct attention away from herself in order to focus their wedding day on God exemplifies why the Bible emphasizes modesty.

1 Peter 3:3-4 reads:

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

1 Timothy 2:9-10 adds:

I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

God’s Word says that man should not look at someone’s outward appearance but instead at their heart because that reveals who they are.

When people dress immodestly, they can be seen as objects or simply for the way they look. Modesty, on the other hand, allows others to see how God is at work in a person’s heart without physical distractions.

Movieguide® previously reported on McCaffrey’s faith:

Running back for the San Francisco 49ers, Christian McCaffrey gives God the glory after scoring a touchdown in 14 straight games—a new franchise record.

“My faith is very important to me, and that’s why I’m praying all the time,” McCaffrey said, per Church Leaders. “When you have a bunch of people chanting your name, it’s important that you give the honor and glory back to the person, God, that’s allowing me to do this.”

The running back is also very vocal about his faith on social media. He often includes Bible verses in his Instagram posts.

In a post from October 2, McCaffrey included Philippians 4:6, which reads, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done.”
